BU Development Thread

I have never come across a university with so many students/alumni ready to denigrate it. I think they are all mad at BU because it isn't their first choice school (e.g. Cornell).

I think it may be more of a sad reflection of how a school's administration can screw up what would otherwise be a very good experience for the students and professors...or at least that seems to be the common complaint amongst people I know.

Tom, it is merely one or two forumers on this site, and you, who seem hell bent at denigrating BU at each turn. Generally, it is a motivated student body who go on to do great things largely due to their affiliation with the university and the connections they make.

If someone doesn't take full advantage of the vast resources BU offers, his fault.

I've been lurking for a couple of years now.. time for me to chime in again:

This makes absolutely zero sense and is a total waste of space.

There should be classrooms or other university use directly below the field, with garage space down lower.

The building(s) being torn down are these giant 1920's era storage sheds. Once used as warehouses, they were bought by BU at some point and used by the ROTC for training and the marching bands for practice. Not a huge loss here.

What is really needed in this area is more housing, not sports garbage.

You do realize that they just built Stuvi 1 and 2 within the decade and are making plans for a 3rd one right?... Do your research.

^I think you are correct as this was mentioned in the institutional master plan as a potential development spot. I was hoping they were targeting to adjacent lot (the HoJo) but we'll have to wait a bit longer.

This new building will house the SMG Executive Education Center: http://management.bu.edu/executive-programs/education/

Or that two story "modern" building across BSR if you rotate the Google picture.

No.

Sports at BU are turrible. We all know this. What was most infuriating was the fact that we couldnt even get faded and play catch on the softball field way back when (2004). THe focus should be less on women's sports and more on University student use.

Consequence of title IX. BU has little choice.

Isn't BU about 60% women these days? If so, I don't understand your statement.

I think BosDev is talking about women's VARSITY sports. Which are a much bigger drain on resources (scholarships, travel, equipment, etc.), than intramural. And a much larger percent of the student body benefits from intramural sports than women's squash or whatever.

That confirms the placement of the new SMG building, but the render looks butt ugly (although hard to see).

Id love to see Myles renovations include making the first floor look decent from the street again, instead of walled off windows.

Looks like theyre finally going to build a park at the beacon/bay state enormous-waste-of-space triangle, currently used only as a ski resort during winters.

Presentation sorely lacks in details.

Am i missing something? What about giant building going up on former burger king lot and lot next door?

Meh, its been in planning since they knocked down the damn BK. I dont think BU is ready to part with the parking lot just yet.

Thanks dburden.

The speech that accompanied the slide show probably had more details.

When will Warren Towers be replaced?
