Cambridge Infill and Small Developments

What's going on with the new EF Education HQ? Everything on the exterior looks done except the "glass waterfall." Been that way for months. Is there an issue with the glaziers I wonder?

I'm going to be very upset if members compliment this building!!!! Well, at least it's a box!

Opinion piece in the Globe calling for development of unused Volpe DOT land. AFAIK the feds have no interest in developing within their perimeter, but interesting the local journos are starting to make noise about wasted land in Kendall.

I spoke with one of the construction guys at the EF building on Saturday. He said they are expecting the waterfall glass to arrive this summer. So it looks like a long time before the building is buttoned up.

Thanks. I wonder if it was a procurement delay? Was it really the plan all along to put the project on hold for 6 months?

I'm on board with this sentiment. I tried, but cannot like the EF building whatsoever. No waterfall glass feature will save this in my eyes. Folks want to compare SBW building with 128, but this one deserves it more than any there.

Not liking the amount of squares over in the Northpoint area.... A couple angles or curves would be welcome.

^I don't like this building. I'll give it that it's back end faces the highway ramps right there, but the ribbon windows are terrible, waterfall or not.

The final product remains to be seen, but I will say this. That park is one of the most underrated in the city and will only get better when the other two ped bridges get built.

Thank God, I thought I was the only one who thought this way.

I'm not in love with the new EF building, but it's at least better in person. There's a cool texture to the white panels that doesn't photograph well. Photography makes them look flat, and that makes them look like 128 suburban office park Po-Mo hell.

You can see the texture fairly well up close when you are on the Tobin on ramp. But I don't think it's very visible from more than 30 feet away and that gives it a very Waltham/Burlington look.

Land of the fatties...waterfall glass or not, this area has all the style of an aging Midwest couple.

What a shame. We're talking about Cambridge Freaking Massachusetts. The city planners there could not have had a better urban vision than that?

Exactly. This box belongs in the New England Executive Park.
