Canopy by Hilton (née Haymarket Hotel) | Blackstone St | Parcel 9 | Greenway

Re: Parcel 9 - The Greenway

It had better be brick...

Re: Parcel 9 - The Greenway

People hate it now, they'll get excited when it starts going up, then when its half way through and not a reflection of what the end result will be at all people will call it a turd, then it will finish and everyone will love it.

Pretty sure it is a bit better than mediocre now and will be a bit better than mediocre when its done. A good use of the space that won't clash too much visually with some of it's better surroundings such as the historic buildings and compares favorably to some of it's uglier surrounding buildings. For a hotel and market it works.

Re: Parcel 9 - The Greenway

Thats what im saying ^ but im just talking about how the circle of life of development in boston works on this forum. I like this and pretty much everything else that is going up or has gone up besides 888 boylston, and even then it looks great at night and has a really engaging street level.

It had better be brick...

Cant guarantee what the materials are but look at the windows, the people, and the buildings in the background. This is still basically massing models with a little bit more color. I can guarantee 100% that this is going to turn out extremely good and be a welcomed addition to the greenway. Recently we have gotten materials wayyy up to par with where they should be. Look at lovejoy wharf. The renders looked terrible, in real life it blows you away, and it even came out better than some of the old stock we have in the city which is extremely hard to do.

Re: Parcel 9 - The Greenway

On its own this is at "acceptable" level, nothing any more ambitious than that. Compared to the previous proposal though this gets dragged down to second banana-to-Blackstone, milquetoast level.

All one needs to do is look at the fruit stands to see how rough and preliminary these renderings are. Where's all the rotted fruit on the ground? The trash? Clearly the real Haymarket isn't depicted yet...

Agreed. ANYTHING is better than what's there now. Honestly it's an embarrassment it's sat like this for so long.

Re: Parcel 9 - The Greenway

^^^Agreed 100%. Embarrassment it is.

Re: Parcel 9 - The Greenway

take it with a grain of salt, but there is a medium sized excavator now sitting idle on the parcel (could be for market trash)

Re: Parcel 9 - The Greenway

So it got VE’d straight into Chelsea....

Re: Parcel 9 - The Greenway

Nice Rte 495 office park there, mister.

Re: Parcel 9 - The Greenway

Is this now going to be a 5 over 1 piece of crap right in the heart of downtown?

Re: Parcel 9 - The Greenway

Keeping this capped at 6 floors is such a waste. Not saying there should be some 20 story tower here but this is prime real estate. No wonder Boston has become so expensive.

Re: Parcel 9 - The Greenway

Agree. This can't be the highest and best use for the property. Surely the developer wants to extract more value from the site. Responsibility for this mediocrity surely must fall on the city officials.

And what a let down this is compared to the garage proposal next door!

Re: Parcel 9 - The Greenway

Yeah, I get the theory of contextualism, but ye olde shopper wasn't driving a Honda CRV over to the Old Feather Store for groceries and then popping in to the Bell in Hand for a wine spritzer.
