As of today, the tarp is coming down on the Deerfield Street side.

Oh goodie! Just in time for my return back to town. I'll have pics Monday or Tuesday.

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

Odd color choice. Looks like plywood or MDF.

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

looks like a graham cracker

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

It's very un-BU. Looks like something that should be built over by Ruggles.

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

Agree that it's very un-BU, and that IMO is a good thing.

Now I love these facade mock-ups, but I have never really understood the "why" of them. It might be my coming from a theater and not a construction background, but the whole process of creating them seems to me very wasteful. What is the reason for constructing them besides the obvious "to see what the facade will look like," what is done with them after the building is built, and how do builders/architects rationalize the expense of them? just curious.

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

They STILL have one over here at Northpoint for my Tango Building.

I always wondered why they are all of sudden pretty common and can think of two reasons:

they're luxury condos so they have the marketing (or whatever funding) budget to do this.

2. and I always thought was more likely, they're legally required to do so, whether in a board meeting with city officials or not, might as well let the public see it too.

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

-Client has to approve the materials.
-Checking the weathering & durability of material over one seasonal cycle.
-Checking detail performance on a particular site/climate
-Providing contractors a physical example.

Many reasons to do a mock-up.

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

This facade is what the MassArt dorm should have looked like.

That said, looks totally out of place here. Bah.

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

Some posters were complaining that all the newer BU buildings look alike. Now BU builds a very different building and they are complaining that it "looks out of place".

Didn't you know? The ArchBoston motto is "Always unsatisfied... Always!"

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

Sorry, I don't think I was complaining about new BU buildings looking alike, but I'll try to stay consistent with "some posters" opinions next time?

This building is on Bay State road. It does not fit in.

Should be torn down ASAP.
