Walked through it last night - about half the center court is down to concrete, and the new floors looks much better. It is kind of funny where they have new floor meeting old floor that they haven't replaced yet though.

This two weeks old now but the entire waterfalls area on the main level has been completely covered.

I apologize in advance for bringing this up, but its not the end of the world. So we know this is on hold, is it cancelled? Is there a possibility they lease the land to somebody else who could deliver? Whats the possibility this picks back up sometime in the near future? There wasn't really any explanation it was just its done move on...Anyone have any more info than that? I found some unposted renders on flickr that got me wondering what is the true status of this project. There has to be a way they could move the responsibility over to someone who could deliver or lease the land for 99 years. This cant be the end.....

Anyways here they are :(

They look similar to older renders but they are after the tower had been rotated.

Perhaps Boston's Simon ambitions derailed in a world where Seattle's skyline rises upwards? Amazons mighty empire constructs without fear, while Simon's malls starve for those same dollars.

I don't see boston housing values sliding anytime soon, I think it's current construction costs that are scaring them off. I think the tower will still get built eventually.

^Agreed. I have been wondering if Simon is aggressively looking for a partnership. They already have a lot of the construction equipment on site, and might want to keep the momentum going.

Simon has near zero experience developing a tower like the one in question, I think we should chalk this up to incompetence and assume it will never see the light of day. Too bad it was a nice looking tower... albeit somewhat derivative.

I agree to a point...but they are continuing ahead with a tower at one of their malls in Houston

I'm not disputing their lack of experience, but that still doesn't explain why they wouldn't just sell it to a willing developer and make a bunch of $$. They have a BPDA-approved design with a 10-yr window to complete it, why wouldn't they try to capitalize that? I am honestly willing to bet we will hear about this again some day - it truly might come down to Simon internally trying to decide if they want to sell it or not.

Keep in mind, we had a very similar thing happen with South Station Tower. It was originally Tufts' project (e.g., also an entity not involved with tall tower development), and they went through a bunch of approvals, then it sat for really long time, before being sold to a developer.

Scary story could be maybe Simon tried......

Yeah, but it's impossible for that to be past tense at this point (e.g. "tried").

Tufts sold their SST rights something like 8 years into the 10 year cycle.

It's been like a year since Simon got BPDA approval...they have a while to act.

^^this on is especially hard to take today. So sad spending the morning staring up at all these incredible Chicago Supertalls.

my eyes are blury though.... not a cloud in the sky, but we have very near hurricane force winds whipping around the BIG TOWERS....

(i'll try taking some snapshots once after it's safe to go outside.)

Every morning I wake up and become disappointed that Boston doesn't look like Coruscant. Like I just don't understand.
