Dorchester Infill and Small Developments

I support the new housing but it's a bit sad to see the old Ch. 56 building, once a landmark along the SE expressway with it's space age sign, go out like this after being neglected for the last couple decades.

Some height is proposed there, but i'd say you'd need to bump up the height of the existing block by like, 30 stories before you'd be justified to use 'nimby-buzzcut-a-comin' catchwords like "dramatic."

Propose the FAA height for Christ sakes unless 12 and 14 stories respectively what they're actually shooting for... which in itself is just another lame outcome.

i need to adjust that post; Let Millennium do the negotiatin'.... They'll propose 80' over the FAA, haggle with the nimby's pending final FAA (known in advance), and get the frigging' FAA height built (which is squat anyway).

Tucked back all the way down in Port Norfolk at the end of Taylor Street. The grey "house"/box finished earlier this year. I can't tell if they're going to build one right next to the wall, but there seems to be a foundation. I hope they get some nice sound-proofing, because the Braintree line is on the other side.

Thanks for the update, we don’t often get them for the more far-flung alcove neighborhoods… I love this tiny little area. Nice and quiet, which unfortunately I fear will change significantly when that giant development at the Italian restaurant gets built.

It would be great to see this lot filled. It has been vacant since at least the Kevin White administration. I wonder how much foot traffic the new retail expects to see

Cue the jokes about the person on the bike riding in the opposite direction of intended traffic on the bike lane... 🤦*♂️

Really curious how the discussion went about the Argyle St parklet adjacent. Would make a lot of sense to t-off Argyle to have fully intersect with Talbot Ave at a right angle while still preserving stub-street access to the lot at 506/508 Talbot Ave (which also really ought to be housing as well...).

Condo complex would rise behind First Parish manse under new plan

The new owners of the former First Parish Dorchester Manse at 29 High St. unveiled their proposal to turn the property into a 60-unit condo complex at Wednesday night’s Meetinghouse Hill Civic Association meeting.

The plan would restore the 19th century manse as community space, linked to a new, four-story residential building with a vestibule. The new building will have 32 studios (464 square feet), 16 larger studios (601-638 square feet), eight one-bedroom units (725-760 square feet), and four two-bedroom units (959 and 994 square feet), according to Peter Vanko, the project’s architect.

I generally like the design but building right up to the property line in the back with giant windows overlooking the backyard behind you is a dickish maneuver
