Not that I ever expected this to be a shopping destination (especially after they announced they were reducing the retail) but the lack of retail is surprising to me. I count 4 retail spaces, all very generically labeled as "Men's," "Beauty," "Wynn Collection" and "Watches of Switzerland."

I still can't believe housing in Everett has climbed to 500K-Million dollars for single, 2 or 3 families houses.

I'm not sure how high rents can continue to climb but the local economies are going to be devastated trying to find basic help. There is a massive general labor shortage for the big corps around there so we are living in interesting and evolving times in Everett Ma.

I give it a year--- Assembly, Wellington, Casino will all be connected with Bike, foot bridges which will be its own world. I also could see Costco, HomeDepot, Fridays retail lot get taken out for a bigger vision in the future.

Times have truly changed in this area.

Good luck rolling the dice in Gambling E-Town. Everett the blue collared town has come a long way at this point from Richies Slush.


Maybe Everett will produce the first 1,000 Ft Commercial Tower in the future to finally embarrass Boston as the highest skyscraper in Massachusetts.

Also, this is one of the best articles I've seen on the casino in a "I can't believe they invested the time and effort into producing this article" sort of way:

Slots. Poker tables. Fine dining. Luxury hotel. Dead fish???

The whole thing is about how that fish die-off that occurred last summer near the Encore site could possibly happen again and how it could possibly (but very unlikely) happen in the same spot and how if it happened again in the same spot then there might be an offensive odor for a few days that might be bothersome to some of the casino guests.
 
The comments section in the Herald are completely different than the comments sections of articles in the Globe, and both are completely ridiculous in their own ways. Reading the comments on the Herald article put a smile on my face today.

What really has me troubled is where Harbor Garage development location stands if and when the casino opens up. I believe that area will be the launching pad for water taxis to take the Bostonian residents to the casino.

That would mean Harbor garage continues to be worth more standing as a garage than rather torn down.

The city of Boston planners and the NIMBYS really put themself in a bad situation for allowing this garage to hover over the Greenway for a decade.

Terrible planning and continues to suppress the Greenway. :-x

I mean... the Encore Boston Harbor parking rates are comparable to the waterfront Parking Garage rates ($24 early bird, $40/day), but what you're saying is that people would take $7/pp water taxis each way. So in your fantasy, you think a hypothetical group of 4 Bostonians (or non-Bostonians for that matter) would drive [/i]into[/i] the city and pay to park, ride water taxis roundtrip and add 90 minutes of travel time to their journey for $96 vs. just driving/parking at casino ($24-$40) or taking the T and a free shuttle bus from Wellington ($20)?

Forget the money. Its more dealing with the traffic if customers are coming from the Boston hotels or from Boston. Its most likely better accessible to take the water taxis to the casino than sit in traffic.

Harbor Garage location most likely could be one of many of the launching pads. Its a parking garage that holds thousands of cars.

That is going to make it even harder to redevelop the garage or the investors will just build on top of it in the future.

In case you missed it, you should read up on all the ways to get to Encore Boston Harbor.

If a person has a car and plans to drive at any point to go to the casino, I legitimately do not understand why one of them would think, "I'd like to drive to the casino in Everett today. Instead of paying $24 to park there for 6 hours, I'll rummage through traffic to Downtown Boston's Waterfront, park at the Boston Harbor Garage for $40, take a 30-minute water taxi for $7, and then take another 30-minute water taxi for $7 to return hours to return to the car."

I neither understand the logic nor the connection you're drawing between this particular parking garage and the casino. If people are taking a water taxi from the Seaport or Downtown to the casino, I have a strong hunch the majority of them are without car.

If you're going to high roller tables at the 5-star, waterside, world class resort, you are not going to a park and ride facility and hopping on a bus to the resort.

If you're shelling out $700/night to stay at the resort and get complimentary on-site parking included during your stay (I think), you are not parking at the Boston Harbor Garage.

You could be right. I was thinking more of never driving into the area of Everett/Somerville which already is a nightmare actually just parking in Boston and taking over the water ferry coming up from 93 South. Harbor Garage would be one of the locations for Water taxis.

But maybe your right on this.
 
I sympathize with displaced Wellington garage Parkers:why isn't it a "rule" that parking so close to a T is somehow reserved for T users?

Or why wasn't the casino asked to build / add instead of outbidding existing commuters?

Imagine, for example, if they had been allowed to "private train" some of the Orange Line fleet?
