Will a full wall be constructed between the station and I-90 or will there only be pillars?

There definitely is some smokiness after a train passes, but not as bad as either platform area at Back Bay. The 'tunnel' section is much shorter and with a more direct path for wind to clear out fumes, and locomotives are usually under Beacon Street (ie near one end). There's also somewhat fewer trains than the NEC platforms at Back Bay. Additionally, much of the problem with Back Bay is that the ventilation fans and louvers have been frequently broken/unused.

That said, I do hope that they have ventilation planned, and I look forward to the day when everything passing through except maybe the Lake Shore Limited is electric.

As of 11/17.

What is the current eta on completion of the towers? I saw end of '25 but that seems very optimistic...

Has there been much activity? It doesn't look changed much since late December.

Has there been much activity? It doesn't look changed much since late December.

It does seem like this has been under construction forever, without a whole lot to show for it, except for the nearly completed deck. Not sure if this is typical for air rights projects of this size a nature or some of it can be coughed up to project management or financing issues. But if it is in the ballpark of typical, I think it does suggest that we will need more government incentives/financial support to advance these kinds of projects in the future. I don’t think there are many developers with the money - and most of all time - to get through approvals and permitting and the many, many years of construction.

Current Construction Look-Ahead

January 2025

MASS TURNPIKE I-90

Erecting steel and precast over I-90 EB and WB. The steel and precast erection was completed in October 2024. Currently, crews are working to complete final bolt up of connections and field welding.

I-90 Fast lane and median reconstruction. As of December 20th,2024, I-90 is restored to all 4 lanes through the Parcel 7 project, both directions.

BEACON STREET BRIDGE

Crews have completed the sidewalk restoration. They are working to complete curb walls and expansion joint installation. This will enable Beacon street to be returned to full access. We are targeting the March 2025 for this turnover.

BROOKLINE AVE BRIDGE

Localized demolition. Crews work under the protection of temporary lane closure at night to demolish the Brookline Ave bridge sidewalk.

Concrete reconstruction. Labor and carpentry crews have been working to form and restore the North Abutment wall. This will allow for the crews to begin on the reconstruction of the Brookline Ave sidewalk on the bridge.

PARCEL 7 DECK CONSTRUCTION

Crews are working diligently to finalize bolting and welding of the metal and precast. Following this will be the installation of concrete topping slabs and curb walls.

Looks like Beacon Street eastbound lanes will reopen in the next few days. The fence has been moved behind the sidewalk and the area is just blocked with cones.
