Mill refits are some of my favorite projects when done right, especially lofts. I think it is still on and the earlier news was just regarding a tax break. Although now with the virus who knows.

So I drove by this today and can confirm its u/c. The windows are tarped up and the new structure in back looks topped out.

Also the buckley is done just wrapping up landscaping, alta union house is finished, and 54 union is topped out.

I figure it's moot. You would think that The Rona has wiped out demand for "luxury" apartments there. Now I have to agree with the Mayor that it sends a message that they aren't serious about fixing Downtown.

Does appear that the bulk of the positive cases in the City are coming from the apartments on the South Side.

As a Billerica native and casual observer of my hometown's politics, I can assure you Framingham will have to work really hard to beat Billerica in the "joke of Massachusetts" category. Billerica just rejected 25 condos above some restaurants near the Concord River on what is currently a used car lot because it was "too big" and/or "too close to the road", yet they continue to build ugly-ass McMansions all over town.
 
All of the recent development in Framingham so far actually looks great, and theres like 2,000 new units, with a lot of them near transit. That being said this one project just got its facade put on and its a mega dud. Not sure how it went so left.
 
Forget the ugly cladding; that can at least be changed. The massing against the sidewalk seems more immediately offensive. How can this hope to accommodate foot-traffic on a busy street and generate a bunch of foot-traffic from its own tenants with the sidewalk squeezed so impossibly narrow? The crosswalk ramp is almost under the lobby overhang.

Seriously poor streetscaping design here.

Went by this project a couple days ago. The new CVS building is now open. Couldn't tell if they are still serious about doing the rest of the project.
 
Nearly forgot about these pictures I grabbed while in downtown Framingham last Thursday. I gotta say that, despite the banality of these projects, and despite the general negativity expressed here, collectively these feel like a huge win for Framingham when taken in context. It probably helps that the backdrop is so seedy to begin with, but walking around town you get the sense for the first time in decades that this is a neighborhood with a future.

This is a tough one to photograph, especially from the front. There's no sidewalk across the street, then the railroad tracks, then a line of trees. Plus it faces north so the shadows are rough.

It shouldn't. While the PB record of decision is annoyingly missing page 2 with the bulk of the project description, it only mentions demolishing one garage to the rear, and that it should not impact existing buildings or character.
 
Of course the link is for the retail space which they can't fill. I wonder what the occupancy rate is for the apartments, I bet it's not high.
