A) It's under-f*ck*ng construction! Why people on this site condemn a building so prematurely always baffles me.
B) Unlike most NU residence halls before it, Northeastern does not own this building. They are exclusively leasing the space from a private developer. So this building was never an "opportunity for Northeastern to show it can play in the major leagues."
That's why I said *right now*. But do you honestly think the finished product will change the stumpy massing, the fact it's turd brown, or the fact that even in rendered form, it adds nothing to the YMCA building? Oooh...alternating windows, yawn.
One only has to look west down Huntington to see half a dozen new buildings that were light years better at the same stage.
Northeastern had no input/sign-off on the design of a dorm to be used by them? That would be surprising (but may be true...I don't pretend to know that).
And sorry, I think it's a f*ck*ng ugly building. You may not think so and that's your perogative. The juxtaposition with NEC and YMCA perhaps unfairly highlights its mediocrity (in my opinion).
I'd argue there's enough of the facade up to start the judging. The massing alone is horrific. Oh well, they can't be all MassArt or West Vill H towers. It's a shame because it's in such a prominent location rising behind the Y building and NEC on Huntington...
What, people can't see ugly until a building is 100% done? That orange is oooglay and incredibly cheap looking, AND it covers 2/3rds of the building. It's not like adding glass is going to dramatically alter the composition.
hah, several people mentioned the massing early on in this thread and were flamed for it. We're all supposed to just be happy that anything is built anywhere, I guess. It looks completely out of scale with the two buildings in front of it
