Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

interesting they're using type 9s to test even though they can't run revenue service, since they don't have stop signs for the street stops on the E line
Well, you wouldn't want the new line's reputation marred by a testing derailment of a Type 8, now would you?

I dunno, what you lose in the PR fail you gain in acclimating the prospective passengers to the day-to-day life of the Green Line as long as those teal-and-silver lemons are here. 🙃

They have to test each car type on the line as part of the break-in process. Also...run-as-directeds can originate at College Ave. and take a B/C/D routing on-demand, so the T9's have to be ready to go there on-contingency.

Good looking alternative. Slat sides are way better than exposed steel boxes on slabs. One page brief. State-wide rule.

Side notes:
Page 6 - (among others). Every time I see the Somerville/Cambridge/Boston town lines meandering randomly through a series of contiguous parcels, it shows we just don't have our act together. I realize there may have been a waterway there a hundred years ago and that's why It Is How It Is. I just know Somerville won't maintain their section of that street, Boston will not be helping out with the slice they own, and Cambridge is losing out on what should be straight property tax revenue. Is there a state surveyor in the house who can show us how to draw a straight line?
Page 24 - Shadow studies on one-story buildings make me slap my forehead and want to punch a NIMBY.
Page 13 - 7 people walking around a utility pump station at the end of a cul-de-sac next to a railyard under a concrete overpass = fringe user scenario. Dress them as unhoused addicts and it's almost believable. What? Were there no spray-painting kid avatars in the CAD PeoplePak?
Overall - This really seems like a massive Legislatively Required Design Documentation dookie. I'd assert the plan prep is more expensive than the actual build will be!

The Electrical substation at Gilman Square should be given this trellis treatment as well but knowing Eversourse it will get a chain link fence. It will take years for trees to hide this scar! The wall along the sidewalk will definitely be a spray paint target. What is also sad is this was originally the site for the station head house before the re-design.

Officially Christened (tagged). It's not to bad. I'm impressed because that is about 6 cans of black, 6 yellow and a couple of cans white. That's a lot to carry when your balancing on the bottom of the beam

Normally, I'm against graffiti, but I must say that one looks kinda cute!!

This sounds like the voice of experience.

Looks like it's gonna stay! Haven't heard anything else. Graffiti can look cute & it can look messy!

I hate graffiti. To me it looks like the decline of a civilization, as when the Vandals sacked ancient Rome. Boston is lucky to have less graffiti than other cities in its size range, but it is still a concern that needs to be corrected. It can get out of hand and really make a city look like its in decline.

Looks a hell of a lot nicer than a blank beam. The white/black/red piece on the left is particularly nicely done. Very clean lines.

I feel like there's already a thread to fight about graffiti on though. Seems like we've been down this thread derailment already?

A few isolated graffiti pieces like these don't look too bad. But how about when graffiti covers walls and beams all over? That's when it becomes a problem.

It looks sort of like a small mural, in it's own cute little way. If it stays small & cute, I have no problem with it!! :)
