Perhaps this October... (from today's PPH)

One of the best written architectural reviews of a building in Maine that I've read. He won't be around for long, or until he's seduced by a much larger and nationally based paper. I don't see why so many on this blog are adverse to paying $10 monthly for a subscription to the PPH. It's won many journalism awards, and this new columnist not only knows how to argue on art and design, but has a welcomed playful style.

I pay for an annual print-delivery sub to the Sunday Telegram, which comes with access to everything (although it bugs me that it doesn't include stories on centralmaine or sunjournal, not that I can figure out anyway). I missed this, though; I'll have to go back and read when I have time!

The downside to the PPH is that they put it to bed so early. I realize they're printing all the papers (Sentinel, Kennebec Journal, and Sun-Journal) at the same plant in SoPo, but it still seems that the PPH should have the latest deadline, at least late enough to have the results of East Coast Red Sox games.

I've been waiting for this!

New digs at Hadlock... ($10 million for a small building with only one tiny window!)

It took out the left-field bleacher section, the birthday party picnic area, AND a chunk of the already-cramped handicapped parking. And one thing in that article that the Press Herald (which has more photos) also got wrong: MLB didn't take over the minor league affiliates, it took over the minor leagues themselves! The teams themselves are still largely independently owned, even if many (including the Sea Dogs) are now owned by a giant faceless corporation.

But I do know someone at my house who would be THRILLED at the idea of a laundry room that can wash 25 outfits + towels for everyone in 1:15.

Looks like 161 York Street is back on the table after the proposed condo project went belly up.

I like that they kept the O.G. sign for the Dry Dock! Anyone up for reopening Eddie's Shamrock Cafe in the Benkay building?

That corner spot looks like a good place for a Starbucks!
In Portland.....yeah right.🙄 And Starbucks are closing stores....not opening them.

Last time I was in Portland....the lack of coffee shops was depressing....especially ones open later in the day or evening. We don't all drink beer.

(Although I would like to see a Starbucks back at that end of the Old Port, I was alluding to the fact that that was the location of the infamous "rock throwing" Starbucks.)

There are still a ton of coffee shops. Bard, Speckled Axe x2, Arabica, Coffee Me Up, Buzz, The Outpost, Flatiron Coffee, Y%F (Coming soon), Double Great Coffee, to name a few that come to mind quickly...

There have been a couple new places on Congress St that have opened up since the pandemic that might be up your alley: Novel (a coffee shop and bookstore between Congress and Longfellow Squares) and Another Round (a cafe and board game hangout spot, between Congress Sq. and Monument Sq.).

Both are open relatively late (at least by Portland standards), and both sell beer, but it's not the main focus.
