Logan Airport Capital Projects

I posted the winning scheme in Post 344: http://www.archboston.org/community/showpost.php?p=299976&postcount=344

I think the KPF design is actually superior.

So do I, but I wonder if the AECOM design won for more mundane reasons - integration of baggage systems or something.

AECOM has done a lot of good work at Logan, while KPF has done none. As a customer, I support going with the known quantity. I hope they ask AECOM/Vidal about using the engineered wood in the actual designs, though. That looked really cool.

Seems like a big difference between the bids are the one (AECOM) will have passengers de-plane and walk straight through to immigration while the terminal itself is on the upper level, similar to how SFO's international terminal is setup. KPF would have passengers go up above to head to immigration, similar to LAX and MIA.

Has there been a firm start date for the project?

Gorgeous xD

It's too bad they cannot completely demolish and rebuild the piers with 20 plus foot ceilings and all glass.

Since they can't expand outward, what's to stop them from putting a large concession/retail space on top of the existing terminal?

Massport is so timid, at this rate it will take 20 years for the Terminal C piers to be finished. I will give them credit though, for the improvements made with the new connector from C to E. They did a beautiful job there, I only hope this will be just as nice.

Guys also poo.

Before a 10 hour flight, there is high demand to poo.

To be fair 10 hour flights don't depart from this terminal now that Emirates is over in Terminal E.......

What's to become of the old bathrooms across the way? Open it up to more seating?

Logan Airport’s Terminal E could soon have a Jetsons-like futuristic look — complete with a lipstick-red roof and skylights in the shape of “eyelashes.”

Multinational engineering firm AECOM, along with Madrid-based luis vidal + architects, were selected by the Massachusetts Port Authority to modernize the 44-year-old international flight terminal with a proposal that may transform the busy building into an iconic new Boston landmark.

Article seems a bit garbled as to this being a new wing. Also mentions a new roof and windows in the existing terminal to let in more natural light.

Hurry up and get this thing built. It will be interesting to see what they do with the existing terminal and how the new windows and roof work for it. Anything will be a welcomed upgrade.

Finally these are posted, probably because they did the Terminal E announcement today, or maybe because they posted tomorrow's agenda:

Fun really starts on p.119, but they do have a pretty firm tone when discussing the APM thoughout. This is happening.

4 total new gates are planned for B and C: 2 at the end of the B pier (since they don't need to fit 777s there for Southwest), 1 on the B/C connector, and 1 on one of the C piers.

Wait aren't those the old renders? I thought the one with all the engineered wood was the most recent?

Too bad they can’t take the opportunity to rename the terminal to D.
