How is a casino any different than my local sub shop? Its not! Awesome!

Nice false equivalency. How is a Casino different than buying Adele concert tickets? Either way you're dropping hundreds of dollars on entertainment, and you may or may not go home happy.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

Hmmm, talk to Anthony Weiner about sexting and the destruction of families. All brought about by the telephone! Before that it was the computer and chat rooms. Before that, newspaper ads looking for hookups. Addictive for some people, and yes, addictive for a few and maybe destructive for them.
The Puritans tried to ban most sorts of entertainment; they ended up hanging women (and a few men) as witches. The trials themselves became quite the entertainment venue for many of the straightlaced, repressed locals. Frankly, the vast majority of people who go to Wynn's casino will go there for the pure value of entertainment, whether it will be the dining, the shopping, or the gambling...or a combination of all three. That's all it will be for most...entertainment.

Ok. Nice anecdotal evidence, but here's a difference between that and largescale addictive behaviors. People can overdo anything (computing eg) and become addicted to anything (like sexting); I'm tasking about gambling which is one of the most common -- and destructive -- addictions there is. NOT something that's far less common but gets a lot of press when it's done, and may not even fall under the auspices of addictions in the first place.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

Yup. You are right. People give up their income for things they find equally valuable.

Man, I just love agreeing with people. How is a casino any different than my local sub shop? Its not! Awesome!

They're different, therefore we must ban the thing that I find objectionable!

Somehow the mob and moralistic people always seem to support one another. That which is prohibited becomes the revenue for violent criminal gangs.

I never said to ban ...anything. I believe in the system generating what the market can support. All I am saying is that in my humble opinion, casinos are places where the majority of people leave having paid money for something that they did not get full value back from. And some people get very addicted to. Like coffee.

Carry on. Build the thing.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

I wish this project had 2 threads:

One thread for construction progress - why is it moving so slowly, OMG steel rising, can't wait, oh those exterior materials look nothing like the render, oh I don't like the glazing, etc.

One thread philosophical pontificating, complaining and arguing.

It does. This thread ("Wynn Everett Casino | Everett") is for discussing the actual Wynn Everett Casino (architecture and construction and whatnot). This thread ("MA Casino Developments") is for overall Massachusetts casino discussion.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

I disagree. Aside from the few photos on the previous page, this thread has been a lot of debating nonsense.

Yeah, my understanding is that all the "debating nonsense" should be in the more general thread. But people (myself included) get carried away posting stuff in the incorrect threads all the time.
