Wow, that's a gnarly looking structure!

I agree. It's a shame that gnarly looking structure was left pretty much unexpressed in the final building. It ended up looking like a fairly nondescript glass box.

I'd assume it also functions as an amphitheater. It's a pretty brilliant interstitial space.

Very nice building!
Not apropos of this building specifically, but more about this stretch of Huntington, it's too bad that retail and/or public performance space isn't happening in any form. This end of the so-called Avenue of the Arts is pretty much an academic wasteland of nice-if-sterile buildings that have nothing to offer anyone who isn't a student at one of these colleges. If they programmed this building's great interior to be a kind of dedicated high-end gallery/performance space (suitable for NEC-Berkelee-BC concerts), that would give this area a little buzz. Right now, it's dead except for the people that work/study there.

According to WBUR MAAM opens Feb. 22nd with three exhibits. "MassArt’s Art Museum or MAAM, the city’s newest free contemporary art museum, which will hold no permanent collection but will rotate a variety of contemporary exhibits in an array of mediums."
