NEMA Boston | 399 Congress St. | Seaport

They're erecting the mechanical screen, the base building is topped off.

Re: Residences at 399 Congress St (formerly Madison Seaport Hotel)

Just getting this on the same page. This is turning out to be a huge building, even by Seaport standards. I wonder how tall it is? ~260'?

Finally warm enough to stop and pull out my new Pixel 3 on runs and Beeline emerges from hibernation to scoop me. Oh well :)

Coming along but the top floor build out has seemed slower than usual to me (I can see it from my apt window). I did see a welder out there on a recent weeknight at 11 pm so .. something's happening lol.

They've done a competent job of making this look like two giant slabs instead of one extra giant slab.

Great pic, Stick, You caught Echelon, NEMA, and Waterside 2! All these new buildings are looking so good, loving the variety of styles and colors of Echelon, the sharp bend with NEMA as well as the cladding, and dark trim of Waterside. And think of all the new residents and retail that will happen with these three! Seaport is killing it, just keeps getting better and better!

I can't quite put my finger on it, but I like this. It's hardly bold or revolutionary, but it has a quiet dignity. Something about the way it rises from the Pike ramps in light and dark halves, it...works.

I think it's just a huge block of nothing jammed on a tiny site. Hopefully, between this and Echelon they can activate the street experience but it's going to be challenging to say the least.

I've trashed this in previous posts, but I think I am starting to come around to it. I think color choice has a lot to do with it. It's already so broad and imposing from certain angles that the neutral colors help it not stand out for the wrong reasons. I imagine that if it used a garish color scheme a-la the Harlo building in Fenway, I would hate it to high hell.

I think bisecting the facade color scheme lends a lot more verticality to NEMA than a majority of projects in the Seaport, which is incredibly ironic because this may be one of the most proportionately wide additions there. Echelon and NEMA both succeed at appearing more vertical despite their height constraints... I think that's what I like about them.
