3 Hudson Blvd has been off and off again for a few years now. A couple of months ago, Boston Properties/Moinian finally got back in action. The site has been getting busier but has been overshadowed by all the activity from the 2 supertalls next door.
 
1 Vanderbilt does something really nice which is to cut away from the base (which you can't see in that picture) so that if you are looking down 42nd St from the west side you can still see GCT.
 
Yes, often overlooked from a distance, but is really impactful for the street-level. It makes the building a lot less imposing. I wanted to get a photo of the base, but was with a colleague and our behavior towards this stuff may seem normal here, but can come across as quite odd to the unwashed.

Tower Verre, 53 West 53rd Street is almost complete. It is almost forgotten, sandwiched between the two monsters on Central Park going up as well as 1 Vandy and is surrounded by a lot of tall buildings, but it really is special.

They apparently found a loophole in buying up air rights to build this high, so grandfather this in and close the loop hole... This is a high quality development and its housing. Demolishing 20 floors is 20 floors of already built housing. Stupid.
 
Exactly, and if you read the comments from the plaintiff NIMBY's, they are sanctimonious about it. Like lopping off half an already built building is not going to be a disturbance to the neighborhood.

Worst case they should just have to take the estimated cost of removing the floors and donate it to the local garden club or something

It should be noted that this is very much a sketch of the idea. There is no formal proposal and many of the details, like the new subway station, have not actually been worked out.
