Photo of the Day, Boston Style - Part Deux

I think they should take down the building next to Frog Pond on the Common, because not only does it cast a shadow on the grass, it also covers some valuable space where grass could be. This is the oldest grass in the world people! We need to be doing more to preserve it! It needs 23 hours a day of sunlight!!

It's way too high for a neighborhood where the average height is zero feet. It's out of context with the dominant aesthetic of green weed.

I would, however, be okay with a compromise if they cut the height down 50% and paint it green.

Sounds like a good way to get it LEED certified.

I like that intersection. A nice little outdoor room is created between the Hancock's plaza and that grassy area behind Trinity.

kz, where is that first photo from?

And that second one, you must've been up mighty early to get that shot.

I've got a film shot of mine from last year:

Before I answer your questions, here's one for you: is your above photo of the building up around State and Congress? I was reprimanded for taking a picture of it before,it being private property and all

Both pics were taken early this morning, walking home after a long night out. The first one is of a building on Warren Ave in Allston, adjacent to (but I don't believe a part of?) St Elizabeth's. The second shot was taken at 5:06 am. What a gorgeous sunrise to sober up to!

Yeah, it's behind the building across the street from Exchange Place. I think I might have taken that shot on a weekend which could explain my heckle-less shot.

I personally haven't been heckled by security for taking pictures yet, anywhere. Although, I shouldn't say never, as when I was snapping some interiors of Grand Central in NYC with my girlfriend, a station worker came over and started some regular chit-chat about our trip. I think it might have been their way of making sure we weren't lunatics.

If that building were somewhere downtown it would bw celebrated as a landmark. Magnificent massing emphasized by stripped detailing.

In a classical idiom, Mussolini's architects used those devices.

Anyone know when this was built?

^ Traditional architecture with a "less is more" slant. Potent.

Could still/again do this stuff.

Right behind the pregnant building (and to the left side of that gothic looking building behind the pregnant building) is 115 Federal Street, where Tommy's tower is going.

115 Fed would look great from Fort Point:

And I realize this is photo of the day, as in singular - not plural - but I've got more pics than I know what to do with

Flickr

There are many great photographs on this site and it would be a shame if some of them were lost if one of the hosting sites went down. So I had an idea to create a Flickr group for archBoston. I don't know how many of you have Flickr accounts but if you take regular pictures you should really look into it. It is free for a basic account but totally worth the upgrade to pro.

Here is the new photo group. I am going to add all my shots and I hope you add yours as well.

Here is my Flickr account as well.
