^I hope no one thinks this is "fun". The soap messes up fountain mechanisms big-time and could easily become a reason to shut down a fountain permanently. Thanks for the pic, but no thanks to the idiot who put in the soap.

^^ So do you think it was a prank or just a misguided 'official' event?

Good eye! (Perhaps this belongs in the "Love" thread, but, after years of hatred for it, I have come to love 100 Summer St. I like its 3 box massing, its rust like exterior. I like it that Boston high rise developers stopped building in this finish, giving this building a "specimen" quality. I miss the Lollipop too! Give me back my damned Lollipop!)

Can't say 100 Summer does anything for me... I laid out in the "Power 5" thread that I like One Boston Place, and that's about the only building in Boston in that "Cor-ten is king" style that I like.

So I just got a new camera to replace my older one, which was felled by an incident involving a dog and a body of water (grrrrrrr), and I just moved from the downstairs apartment in a duplex to the upstairs one. Here's the view:

What's cool about it is that the bright white light at left is the Prudential Center and 111 Huntington... the trees naturally create just enough of a clearing for us to have this view, 4 1/2 miles out:

I have the same view in dorchester, but only in the winter! TODAY FROM EAST BOSTON

1. I love the first shot. As if there were an airport in a tranquil New England fishing village.

2. Good god, what is that Stalinist Jesus shrine?

3. What is that island with the massive cliff?

2. That's the Madonna Queen Shrine in Orient Heights.

3. That's East Boston?! Where?

It looks like Peddocks Island, but I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be able to see it from E Boston, although I could be wrong. Peddocks' eastern side looks like cliffs, but it's actually severe erosion which occured overnight, during a single storm -- the 1991 nor'easter, aka, Pefect Storm. It simply washed away a huge chunk of the eastern portion of the island. There's no rock there, its basically just sand.

If the photo was taken from E Boston, Im guessing its one of the Brewsters. I thought they were rockier though.

Some nice shots in this, anyone from here?

Vote for your favorite 'Architecture' photos
Posted by Teresa Hanafin, Boston.com Staff September 8, 2009 12:02 PM

It's time to vote for the best Architecture photos out of the 50 finalists as chosen by our judge, Bruno Debas. The top 3 finishers win gift cards worth $100 for First Place, $50 for Second, and $25 for Third.

Vote using our Voting Machine below. Be sure to use the small bar on the right to scroll down to see all the photos. Cursor over the photos to see them a little bigger; click to get a large size. Use the X in the upper right corner to close them.

Click and drag your choices into the numbered boxes at the top, and hit the "Cast vote" button. You'll see a popup box that acknowledges your vote (if you don't see it, it's because it's up higher on the page).

Since we didn't post the VM until Tuesday, my new BFF Jim has convinced me to leave voting open an extra day. Voting will end at 4 p.m. Friday (Sept. 11); we'll post the winning photos on Monday.
