Portland International Jetport | PWM

Death, taxes, and airlines dropping MHT shortly after adding service.😂
Rumor has it that breeze is next.

It would be nice to see some route expansion of SWA here at the jetport. Good to see BNA, which will be coming back next summer into fall. It would be great to have FLL or PBL which I am surprised not to see here, but Jetblue is starting that route from MHT to FLL. Offer more MCO service on SWA which sells out the 2 flights in February.
PWM Various Projects:
Gate Expansion to 14- just started, finish date 2025
Baggage renovation- Status?
Customs Station- Status?
Parking lot expansion-Status?
Jetway replacement project-Status?
Offices over baggage claim/old restaurant-Status?
New Hotel across Embassy Suites-
Are the runway and taxiway projects done? or more to come?

I thought Breeze was doing well? Be interested to see how PSM and BGR does with Breeze. Looks like the route expansion has slowed for Breeze.

So far as I'm aware, the Customs facility is still "off in the future," unless Grandma Susan can pull in some cash (assuming she keeps her job). The last time I drove all the way down to Jetport Blvd. and Westbrook St., nothing had happened at the hotel site. I have no idea on the others.

Senator Collins term ends in January 2027 and she plans to retire so PWM has a few more years to potentially benefit from some transportation grants similar to Senator Leahy's parting gifts to BTV.

Southwest has been very conservative with route expansions network-wide due to delays with the MAX-7 and issues with the MAX-8's. Their 737-700's are getting old and they aren't able to effectively replace them until the MAX-7 is certified . They barely have enough birds to keep their current network running smoothly so sadly it might be status-quo with them for a while.

My big wish would be for WN to directly compete with UA to DEN. I think between Breeze, Frontier and JetBlue we have a good amount of lift to Florida.

Understood, the job I was referring to was her perch on Appropriations. With Mitch McConnell stepping down as Republican leader, I don't know if his hopeful successors would be interested in keeping a Northeastern not-so-conservative in one of the most powerful spots in the country. (Sorry for bringing up politics.)

Just took a look at bookings for B6's PWM-MCO. These are the seat maps for Wednesday 10/30 and Saturday 11/2. Looks like most of the cabin is sold out on both flights and that service is off to a strong start!

When B6 offered the MCO several years ago, the E-190 was always full. Now with the 3x a week to MCO, (would people who would usually go to Boston during the winter, are they now using this flight out of PWM?) just curious.
With 4 choices to MCO
1. B6 (nice new Terminal C at MCO!!!!) M W F (A320)
2. Breeze A220 M F Terminal B
3. SWA 2 Runs in February, but family friendly B737-8 Saturday only Terminal A
4. Frontier LCC level of service various days (A320,A321) Terminal A

More competition is always better but I'll admit I'm skeptical as to whether PWM can sustain 4 carriers to MCO. I do think Breeze and Jetblue could effectively compete with each offering their own daily or near-daily service. It would be nice to see WN step up their game somehow (given their fleet issues) even if it was just doing Saturday-Sunday to MCO from February through May.

I do see Frontier as the weakest option to Orlando now that B6 is back in town. Their load factors for PWM-MCO last year were fairly weak, and B6 will just pull more travelers away from F9 with a far superior onboard product.

This will be even more convenient for cruise passengers once Brightline opens their Cocoa station; the train station is in Terminal C.

I am just posting this as a point of reference. COS Colorado Springs Airport which handles roughly the same number of passengers (2.2 million) as PWM is in the midst of constructing a 14,000 sq ft FIS station. What size is PWM planned FIS station? The airport is also city owned and received the funds from the Biden Admin for the construction of the FIS station. SWA is the first to announce service to Cancun using the 737 Saturday only service. So, in my mind it could happen here. You build it, they will come.

COS might handle about the same number of passengers as Portland, but the city is also home to the Air Force Academy, the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee, and the summer Olympic Training Center. Scheduled flights to Cancun might be flashy, but I bet that it'll handle a lot more Netjets, etc.

PWMFlyer, Paul Bradbury was gracious and took the time to answer all of your questions for me. He is very appreciative of all of the members on this forum that show interest and support for Maine's busiest airport! (y)

* Baggage claim renovation status? First phase is is replacing flat plate carousels with incline carousels scheduled for 2025 but we don't have dedicated funding yet.
* Custom/FIS status? We're looking at funding with PFC's, design will start in 2025 and construction in 2026.
* Parking lot expansion status? Goes to Portland Planning Board on November 26th.
* Jetway replacement status? Gates 3-7 will be replaced. Design is complete but funding is now going to Gates 11-14 project. I will be updating our CIP in November and if funding can be resolved the new jetways should arrive in early 2026.
* Admin offices moving to former restaurant status? Now at 65% in the design stage and will be put out to bid when complete in the first quarter of 2025.
* New hotel status? This isn't my purview and is a completely private development.
* Runway and taxiway projects status? These are done for now. The next taxiway rehab will be the Air Cargo Bypass taxiway project scheduled for 2028.

This should get everyone up to speed on PWM happenings and as mentioned previously the Gate 11-14 expansion is currently underway with a completion date just prior to Memorial Day. :)

DesertMaineiac, I shared your wear and tear concerns with Paul Bradbury and he will ask the City Council to appropriate funds on November 18th to install new carpeting throughout the entire upper concourse. The goal is to have it completed for the opening of the Gate 11-14 expansion which will be a huge visual improvement and add uniformity throughout the concourse. (y)

Can't wait for those incline carousels. I hate the fact they were replaced with flat plate carousels that jam all the time We used to have the incline carousels long time ago.... It's embarrassing when a passenger has to climb up behind the monitor/Screen that hides the bags coming from the outside... to unjam the line!!!!

This is almost as exciting as the gate expansion and FIS design to me. The carpet in the older half of the terminal is...let's say...."past its prime"
