Portland International Jetport | PWM

Temporary restrooms for the summer and fall season, are you kidding me?

I saw this posted on Boston.com about Massport providing live music near baggage claim. How about the closed restaurant area?

They need it rather that their typical "70's porn flic" music they have been playing for years.

Anyone have updates on passenger numbers? I’d imagine everything is going well. A friend of mine flew Avelo up from New Haven and said the flight was fully booked!
Flew out the other week to Nashville which was also a full flight from PWM.
The Jetport website hasn’t updated numbers in months… not the best look. Kinda too bad.

Had a Delta flight to DTW and returned via ATL last week and both flights were full. NR2Portland, on the PWM site, click the "Employees" feature at the very top of the page, then click "Partner Portal" to the bottom right, then click the "Monthly Passenger Statistics" of your choice. Paul showed me this inside trick a while back when I whined about the delay in passenger counts being updated under "Airport Statistics". It also allows you to see the enplanements and a bunch of other info from each individual airline which you may find interesting. (y)

My math shows that PWM had an increase of 36K enplanements for April and an increase of 41K for May compared to CY2024 and it appears that the jetport is on track for another record breaking year! February was the only month showing a decline over last year for a loss of 9K.

This is from the presentation Paul is giving to the S & T Committee.
Gates 11, 12, & 14 Terminal Improvements, Loading Bridges, and Fixed Bridge Extensions: This $21.6 million project provides: fixed walkways and three new passenger boarding bridges at the west end of the terminal building, new restrooms, an adult changing restroom, and a regulatory required service animal relief area. The project received a temporary certificate of occupancy in June to allow use of the new fixed walkways and passenger boarding bridges. These new bridges eliminated the need for at grade ramp boarding and provide ADA compliant fully enclosed and conditioned boarding bridge connections to aircraft at gates 11, 12, and 14. This is a significant improvement for travelers. The project will be completed later this month in advance of the Jetport’s busiest travel month of August. The Jetport expects to serve nearly 320,000 inbound and outbound travelers in just the month of August this year. This year, through May, the Jetport has served a record 792,000 travelers, which is up 13.6% over the same period in 2024.

We flew out to Ohio to visit my wife's family a few weeks ago on the new Breeze nonstop to Columbus. This was the first time we've been able to fly direct from Portland to Columbus. Typically we fly AA to Dayton, connecting either through PHI or DCA. It was nice to go nonstop and the A-220 was a nice plane. The flights were full going out and back.

I am just putting it out there...I know that concord runs hourly service to Logan. Where is everyone flying to that cannot fly out of PWM , I know international is out, but are people flying to lax? Vegas? Arizona? I see alot of people come from NH instead of going to BOS. Is it time to push for cj trailways to go to pwm?

I prefer to fly in and out of Boston. Even with the added cost and another leg with Concord Coach, it's usually cheaper and definitely more convenient with flight time choices than PWM. And forget the connecting flight idea. I NEVER do that now. It's mostly Vegas, Houston, NYC, and LA for me. Portland to NYC (or in reverse) can be a challenge. Sometimes with convenient flight times it wants to take you to DC or Philly to connect! But glad to see PWM is growing. People want to live in and visit southern Maine. Buy real estate here! And perhaps one day (2050?) Brunswick adds length to the end of one or both of its runways and it becomes an international airport. Logan is going to become too congested and too frustrating to use. But if the eVTOL thing can happen, watch out. The first electric powered (though not vertical) commercial flight happened from the Hamptons to JFK last month. I did a fun project with Blade (rideshare helicopters) in 2019 and that was fun. They are already teasing eVTOL aircraft, but that is still a decade away.

I fly PWM when I can, but we've done BOS-SEA a number of times, and BOS-PIT (the Breeze flight is nice when it's available) ... Don't really mind the bus ride
At times, parking at PWM can get a little dicey (like school break), and got screwed with "ParkMobile" at the Jetport one time (bought parking that said Location: 1001 Westbrook St , Portland, ME, 04102, but it was actually for the Pink Lot)

They would also need to shift the eastern runway (19R/1L, which is currently not in use) further east to meet FAA standards for separation of runways in order to reopen that runway. Currently they're only about 500 feet apart. I believe minimum for FAA standards is 700 feet. There is space to do it, and if you look at the satellite view of the property, there appears to be evidence of an older eastern side runway just east of 19R/1L.

Logan has many more choices and often the flights are significantly cheaper. If you're off on a family vacation, that price difference can be a big deal.
