Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

Any idea which 2 buildings will be eligible to receive the addtional story?

He wants to add floors to two of three towers (that term is used loosely here) and I think he would need an exception or height increase for only one of those. They want to tie his height increase to an agreement that he will never develop the plaza, which is baloney. That plaza is not worth preserving. It looks nice and that is about all. No one uses it.

New article in the upcoming Forecaster talking about the Eastland renovations and how the mock up pic shows Westin. Can't find the pic itself.

Guy who works at maine med told me that in five years they're going to tear down parts of the building and build two new towers. Not sure exactly the plans.

Nice advertising here. It's next to five guys burgers and buy the word "cooler" and that people may already love them, I'm guessing either Pinkberry, Jamba Juice, or even the return of Smoothie King. Any inside info?

If this ends up being another national chain I think you're going to hear the start of something whether in blogs or editorials or the council itself. What it tells me is that Portland is viable if people want to open up here. From nothing to 5 guys, this place, and Urban Outfitters in one year.

I've heard that about the maine med plans too. also, just ask Greg mitchell for his emails regarding 425 fore street if he won't tell you (they may in fact be public information)

Some pics of the Eastland on here. Also a real sweet early century pic to start off. You can make out the word "Westin" on one of the bottom pics. Top of the East being expanded would be awesome.

That looks pretty good. I imagine the Eastland's owners also have some ideas about Congress Square park. Their renovations could be an impetus for improving this little stretch of Congress Street.

Article in paper today about no neighborhood resistance to huge bayside plan. On phone so I can't post it

Here's the article - http://www.pressherald.com/news/bayside-group-finds-no-opposition-to-plan_2011-10-07.html. It quotes Alex Landry from the Bayside Neighborhood Association:

"I'm cautiously optimistic," Landry said, as the ideas jibe with the association's goal of a mixed-use, urban development.

Most of the buildings would have retail space on the first floor, he said, with parking, office and residential space on upper floors.
He said the association was deeply involved with developing design guidelines for the zoning where the property is located.

As long as those standards are followed, Landry said, "we can't even spell NIMBY," referring to the acronym for "not in my backyard."

I'd really love to see a rendering of their plans for Bayside

Their plans have been represented to date by the rendering circulating under the name maritime landing. That doesn't represent an actual proposal but rather an notion, which is cool. Have you seen it?

Making way for the new terminal. Not sure if there were any images of exactly what it's going to look like? I will miss the "Welcome to Portland" sign that was on the water side of the building.

Im really interested to see who will fill the director's position in the planning and urban development dept. I echo Corey's statement that Patrick should throw his hat in the ring!
A new director of planning vould be a great thing for Portland
