Potential Exelon Mystic Station Redevelopment | Everett

So... this weekend's news has elicited newfound interest in LNG exports to Europe. Not exactly the perfect place to have this discussion, but is there a sense that Everett's LNG activity will have increasing global interest?
The Everett facility is used for LNG imports, and at this point it takes the vast majority of all LNG imported into the country. We need imports there because New England's natural gas pipeline capacity is so lousy that we can't (presently) meet our demand for energy any other way. Nowadays the LNG that comes into Everett is overwhelmingly from Trinidad & Tobago with a little bit from Nigeria, but in recent years there have also been shipments from places like the UK, Yemen, and (yes) Russia. This has always been a sensitive geopolitical topic.

Due to our lack of pipeline capacity in New England there's just about zero chance that the Everett facility would be used for exports. US LNG exports have actually been booming in recent years, but it doesn't go through Everett.

Theoretically, the Northeast Gateway and Neptune LNG moorings out in Massachusetts Bay could replace Everett.

Lot I didn't know, particularly on the source of our imports. Thanks!

I see the auction only covers the older power plant. I thought it would cover the newer plant too, since that one will be boxed in by this development.

In the photo, there seem to be abandoned bridge pilings running alongside the Alford Street Bridge. Were those for the old Orange line, when it still went to Everett?

Yes. McGovern Honda is the site of the old Everett Station, so it crossed the river then ran right alongside Broadway into the terminal.

I love the Revs trying for a stadium finally and Everett is one of the top cities I’d go for but what I just don’t get is - why build where there is no mass transit.

On the flip side the MBTA should put a commuter rail stop next to Encore or just before to the North of it. And they could expand the proposed pedestrian bridge to the Orange Line

Yes! It will be interesting to see what type of transit will be added with this proposal.

Might be the one place where the State might be willing to give the tax breaks. Also it's closer to the fanbase.

Right.
The pedestrian bridge will likely happen.
Then you have walking access to Assembly and Sullivan. Prob a short shuttle from Wellington.
Then you could run the silver line right by it without too much trouble.
Throw in some water transit up the mystic.
I'd be more concerned about cars.
The revs have a sizable suburban following. That exit off 93 (old 28) that comes down to Cambridge street at Sullivan station is gonna be a nightmare.
Tho it'll be off peak and I guess most will access from rt16.

either way, great news.

Taking a water taxi up the mystic to a dock right at the edge of a new stadium would be soo badass!
yea, this would be excellent.
I'm also an Everton fan, Maybe one day I can get water taxis to see both teams!
A combination of Chelseas plans for Battersea power station and Evertons Bramley moor dock, with a capacity of 25-30K would be great!

No longer rumours, but also not happening, again.. . 🤦🏻

Frustrating that the article doesn’t have statements from anyone in the House who worked to remove the wording.

Who would do that, what’s the benefit, and how do they think the land will eventually be used? Very confusing motivations.

Besides the need for traffic improvements on the Boston side, the stadium seems like a clear win for the community.

I need to get a life…

On Thursday, a senior state House lawmaker who played a central role in the compromise budget deal said he’s not entirely dismissing the idea of a new stadium.

But the pressure-cooker of the debate over the legislation wasn’t the appropriate venue for that discussion, House Ways & Means Committee Chairperson Aaron Michlewitz, D-3rd Suffolk, said.

“We’re not saying no to a soccer stadium,” the Boston lawmaker told reporters after House Republicans successfully launched a procedural ploy that delayed a vote on the so-called “supplemental” budget until Friday.

“I think there’s still a lot to be discussed on this. It needs to be fleshed out for us to feel comfortable about it going forward. And in the short period of time this as been discussed, I don’t think we’ve had that full conversation,” the House’s top budget-writer said.

As Winston Churchill defined Russia, so is Massachusetts politics: "A riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma."
