Hello, All!

I have really felt so emotional this past week just like all of you.
I sat here in shock and just felt numb. I also watched all the helping and caring going on all around the city as the events unfolded as the days passed.

I felt it was time to launch my new blog...my way...of sharing a small smile and a few memories of Boston in days gone by.

As many of you know, I have spent years collecting things about Boston. And they are not all department store related:rolleyes:

So this new blog is place to post...the rest of my stuff.

Some will have probably shown up in other great collections online, others may not have yet. I shall use photos, ads...and other treasures to create this blog scrapbook. I hope it will be a great addition to the wonderful other Boston sites out there already. And also create discussions and shared memories by others, too!!

I know it's not all rose-tinted glasses as we look back but it's all part of preserving information about Boston...and the places and events that shaped it.

Thanks so much to archboston.org for all your support in my various projects over the years!!!!

Come see, join as a follower if you like:rolleyes:

I found the following statement from the Wikipedia page amusing:

In 1957, the Boston Redevelopment Authority, acting on behalf of the Northeastern University Trustees, declared it unsafe, and scheduled it for demolition. The local opera community demonstrated and petitioned the BRA to spare their only venue, but the order stood. The solidly built building was gutted in 1958, but proved difficult to demolish. Two demolition companies gave up in frustration, as the opera house resisted their efforts. Only after a new and larger wrecking derrick arrived, did the walls fall.

Thanks, cozzyd!!!!

I saw that and laughed. Such bad shape and needed to be declared unsafe...yet it was a real nightmare to pull down, it was so solid!!!!! Funny...and sad, too!!

The photos on the blog show what a fine structure it was. Enjoy!!!!

This is where Speare Hall now stands, correct?

I know this is unrelated, but what tunnel was this ad talking about?

Hello,
Yes, that is where that part of Northeastern now stands.

And that was the Washington Street subway....the Orange Line:)

Amazing how so much was going on in 1908!!!!

Charles:)

Hello, All!

Just wanted to say that a new update has been posted my new blog.
The focus today is the great old Mechanics Building that used to be located along Huntington Ave where the Pru now sits. The update inlcudes history, ads, articles and photos. A bit of look at the early Pru project as well since this building was standing in its way.

Hope to see you there:rolleyes:
