South Boston Infill and Small Developments

My gosh, with all the new housing going up in the city center (Back Bay, Fens, Downtown, South End, etc) along with the Seaport, South Boston looks like it's adding a few thousand units of housing as well. Anyone have any idea as to how many housing units been going up in South Boston during the last few years?

BeeLine -- great updates on all the South Boston infill. That looks like a lot of housing!

Atlantad -- Tommy's last great initiative -- Housing in Abundance to boost the population of Boston -- was somewhat less well covered than some of his others

At some Boston Chamber breakfast he let lose the idea of adding about 30,000 units and potentially 100,000 citizens by the 400th anniversary of Boston's founding [2030]

That necessitates about 2,000 new units per year for the next 15 years

So -- I suspect that the BRA and other related agencies have opened the development spigot for housing at all scales just a bit wider

Of course -- an Olympic Village to house about 15,000 athletes, trainers, coaches and such would go a long way toward the goal

Did a quick check of my notes and came up with the following numbers:
Approved, not yet under construction: 416
Approved Under construction: 631
Recently completed (over 10u): 140
Under 10 units permited U/C: 135

LOI's or In the wind: 326

This does not include the many "major" building renovations going on. Easily over a 100 during 2013.

Bottom line 1000 - 1500 real units for core S. Boston.

Add in the 100's coming online in the Seaport/Fort Point/Innovation district/area/heighborhood (s). You could say South Boston is booming.
