Wow that really, really, really looks awesome.

Re: South Station Tower

This needs to happen they've been talking about it for too long. Iv always believed with whats going on in south boston if the post office is taken out the fort point channel can really turn into something amazing with developments all along it with docks and a ferry from south station.

Re: South Station Tower

I tend to hate this kind of design ... but for some reason this seems to work on first glance. I would love to see more of this proposal.

Random question relating to the North-South rail link:

Has the state ever floated the idea of creating one central station in Boston? I just have this fantasy idea of the city and state completely overhauling Government Center Plaza with a central railway station and relocating City Hall to the existing South Station building. Take a look at what I just drew up on Google Maps:

Brilliant idea. South Station should be the Central Station of Boston:--
Does anybody on this board believe South Station could actually be developed with the amount of Bureaucracy and the amount of agencies involved in this project? I see a stalemate on this chess board for this development. Hopefully I’m wrong.

Re: South Station Tower

^ If they can't develop south station then there is no way anything like a central station would ever even come close.

The N-S link has its prepared route already, beneath the CAT. They're never digging up ANOTHER section of Olde Boston again. Especially when there's a ready-made berthing for the N-S Link tunnel.

Re: South Station Tower

Central Station is supposed to be near the current Aquarium Station on the Blue Line if they ever build the N-S connection.

Re: South Station Tower

Is this thing ever being built? It would be great.

Re: South Station Tower

Stress on the word fantasy, guys.

Agree with everything you said!

Absolutely. But I imagine the trains running under Columbus, cutting down the diagnol path on the Common to Park St Station, right up Tremont.

I like your idea of extending the esplanade into the North End post-North Station. You know have me fantasizing of ridding us entirely of the above-ground North Station.

Re: South Station Tower

^ How? The N/S Link is to run beneath the CA/T, which doesn't go by Govt. Center... Central Station is a boobdoggle anyway. When they do get to the N/S Link, they should opt for S. Station "under" rather than the Central Station plan... F-Line has much more info...

Re: South Station Tower

The idea for a Central Station (around Aquarium) was dropped because of low ridership projections. Really the point of the NS Link is through service to South Station. There isn't much use for a Central Station.

Re: South Station Tower

It was attached to the Globe article. I didn't see any others in there. Hopefully others might know where to dig them up?

Re: South Station Tower

The station is indeed a beauty, a little bit of Dubai or Beijing on the channel. The rest though is status quo provincialism: timid underdevelopment vs. a game changing boldness. The tower scenarios in the other renders are superior to it.

Re: South Station Tower

Obviously this vs. the eventual will have major differences, but I hate the trend of roofs being shown in renderings as a green park on top of a building. I'm all for efficient design and properly incorporating open space, even on roofs, but the green fill that has become the norm is lame. (a more general than specific critique)
