Those models most likely won't be built anyways. Hopefully a new design will be drawn up.

Pretty sure that tall model on site of modern theatre is a misplaced 45 Province Street model.

Emerson and Suffolk are two medium sized institutions and the impact they have on downtown Boston is amazing! Boston and Cambridge are so damn lucky to have the universities and colleges that are located here.

The interior shots in the PDF demonstrate how the theater is going to be a recreation rather than a restoration. When the roof failed years ago most of the plaster dissolved to the metal lathe. The extensive bracing to keep the building aloft makes it quite clear than a few years ago the threat of collapse wasn't an exaggeration. The Gaiety looked in pristine condition compare to the current state of the Modern, ARGH!

I'm assuming that shortly we shall see extensive work to carefully disassemble the Modern's facade given the numeration on the demolition plans and sketches of those details. It'll be fun to watch the old lady's face be reassembled all dolled up for the first show in a few years.

The site is enclosed by a construction barricade and today a crane was dismantling the front of the theater.

I went by there a little while ago. The scaffolding was mostly down and it looked like the theater is completely gone.

This is interesting. Does anyone know of any other buildings in Boston that have had their facades totally disassembled and rebuilt piece by piece?

I'm sure facade is being saved and restored will be attached to the new structure,the rest of the old building will be demolished and rebuilt as a new highrise.^thanks for the cool pixs!

The Exchange building was carted off, cleaned, and put back together when Exchange Place went up.

The PDF posted a few pages back has elevations with every piece of stone enumerated for dis/re-assembly.

I like this project, but that's a sad sight.
