The Alcott (née Garden Garage Towers) | 35 Lomasney Way | West End

^True, good point.

Did anyone go last night?

On the BRA's site is a ZIP file that was created on 2/18/2015. It contains about 10 files worth of support, opposition, and even a few neutral comments.

The opposition files are bigger than the support files, since there is a questionnaire for each person that opposes it. The support files merely include signatures. Therefore, it looks like there is a lot more support than opposition. And if you read through the opposition, it is more of the same.

Headed for approval?...

>>The Boston Civic Design Commission this week recommended approval for the project, and it's expected to head to the BRA for final approval. Click through the slideshow on the right to get a full glimpse of the redesigned Garden Garage redevelopment.

Pictures look great, hope this happens. That garage is ugly. I like how they included the Nashua at residences in the render. Wonder when this would break ground. Are we thinking a 2 year timetable? Or more for demolishing the old garage plus construction of the new one?

This area is going to be jam packed when everything is done...especially on game/event days.

Re: Garden Garage Towers (Basketball City) | 35 Lomasney Way | West End

Great to hear this project is sneaking its way through the approval process.

Thanks for the link. I think this the fist time I have seen a skyline rendering with the Nashua Street project. Looks like it will be a nice under the radar surprise. It doesn't get the attention of the 600+fts project. But it should be pretty prominent given its location.

The other main takeaway from the slide show is just how much space the O'Neil federal building takes up. Hopefully that is eventually the home of a great mixed use development to rival the Congress Garage redevelopment project.

Re: Garden Garage Towers (Basketball City) | 35 Lomasney Way | West End

This with the garden towers and north station tower is going to be huge when coming into the city from the north.

Re: Garden Garage Towers (Basketball City) | 35 Lomasney Way | West End

I know it's too much to ask this one building to help repair the towers-in-the-park aspect of the West End but seeing how much open space there is kind of sickens me.

Re: Garden Garage Towers (Basketball City) | 35 Lomasney Way | West End

Serious question though, what is the official status of the West End? Is it run by some sort of development corporation or does the BRA still have it as an urban renewal site with all power vested in themselves?

Re: Garden Garage Towers (Basketball City) | 35 Lomasney Way | West End

In the BBJ article, image 2/5 shows a dotted line around some of the property - what does that represent?

And who actually owns the west end - is it all one entity, is it all one piece of property or what? The hope of long-term transformation is much greater if it isn't all owned by a single entity...

edit - link to article.. images wont post for me.

I believe that is the parking element. The current garage actually connects to the rest of longfellow place garage. You can drive in from garden garage and exit on staniford if you wanted. Not sure of the entire west end, but I know equity owns the longfellow towers, the west end apartments and emerson place.

It will be so exciting to drive south into the city on 93 and see this, Nashua st. Residences and North Station towers, AND Congress st. garage towers! I'm giddy at the thought!

Don't forget Lovejoy Wharf's addition-- that'll look pretty big heading into the tunnels.

Re: Garden Garage Towers (Basketball City) | 35 Lomasney Way | West End

It'd be nice if someone felt like making a sloppy photoshop of that perspective from the north to include all the new construction, just to have a rough idea of how different it will look...

Agree -- Millenium Tower is conspicuously absent

Re: Garden Garage Towers (Basketball City) | 35 Lomasney Way | West End

Are the garage and basketball courts still in use? The GC garage is still in full use, but that project is approved. In other words, even if this does get approval someday, I doubt we would see anything done here for years.

To that end, let's get a pool going on which garage will get demolished first... Garden Garage, Aquarium, Federal St, Congress St.

Re: Garden Garage Towers (Basketball City) | 35 Lomasney Way | West End

I don't read the PDA that way ... Longfellow Place was the name of the location but it says "the Project" is the name of the new building??

Toss in Back Bay garage as the longshot darkhorse. I'll put my money on the Garden Garage. Doesn't the Congress St garage have to wait until they build that ~480' residential tower before they consider demo? The other 3 don't really have serious proposals yet, but I'd say Federal Street (Winthrop Square) garage is most likely to come down first out of those, and either 2nd or 3rd overall.
