Re: Garden Garage Towers (New West End building)

I meant the building directly adjacent to the Longfellow Towers...the housing landscraper that was constructed by the Mass Archdiocese back in the late 90s. http://images.neighborcity.com/images/04/56/4e/bc.jpg

Though I agree the Rudolf/Lindeman/Services Building is huge waste of space

The building the Archdiocese built (called West End Place) was supposed to be a third tower like the other two longfellow towers, but it wasn't built. Kind of like how Harbor Towers was supposed to be three towers, but the land for the third was taken to build Rowes Wharf.

Re: Garden Garage Towers (New West End building)

For some reason I like the Longfellow towers more than the Harbor Towers, they're just alot more attractive than the Harbor Towers.

According to the BRA website -- the project is under review

^ Was the Garage open? Derek and I cut through the garage on our bikes last week.

Re: Garden Garage Towers (New West End building)

When this comes down, is this the type of structure they would implode? Because, if so, I want to be around for it.

Choo -- quite possibly it would be a candidate for controlled demolition

on the other hand today's sophisticated new destruction machines with their concrete and steel shears and other specialized tools -- can be lifted to the top with a big crane and they can then work their way down as the structure slowly decends into a pile of rubble

Or with their long reach they can work from the growing pile of debris taking the top off

Demolition machines and work tools
Demolishing existing structures and preparing sites for future projects is tough work.

Demolishing existing structures and preparing sites for future projects is tough work. It requires the right equipment to get the job done efficiently and profitably - equipment like our Cat® 330C L UHD and 345B L Series II Ultra-high Demolition Excavators. They are purpose built to maximize stability and performance - and have long reaches: 68' 11" (21 m) high on the 330C L UHD, and 83' 8" (25.5 m) on the 345B L Series II.

Products

Cat offers solutions for stripping, cutting, crushing and pulverizing. From razing and scrap separation to loading and site finishing, Caterpillar® offers the right machines and work tools for every step of the process. They're all designed and built with the quality Caterpillar is known for - so you get the most from your equipment investment....

85C Ultra High Demolition (UHD) Hydraulic Excavator
Caterpillar engineers have designed and produced specialized machines with the objective of increasing productivity at every stage of the process. Added to that, our machines have been developed with an emphasis on stability, durability and ease of use....

Work Tools:
Buckets
Caterpillar manufactures buckets for virtually every demolition application, no matter how harsh. The Multi-purpose bucket is effective for sorting materials, dozing and cleanup.
Grapples
Extremely effective for land clearing and material handling - including sorting and loading rock, scrap, pipe, waste material and demolition debris.
Hammers
Essential in a variety of demolition and construction applications, Cat Hammers are designed to break up concrete, asphalt or rock in demolition, road construction, driveway and sidewalk removal applications.
Multi Processors
Designed to handle a wide range of industrial applications. With one common housing and interchangeable jaws, they easily manage cutting and crushing to shearing and pulverizing.
Pulverizers
Well-suited to handle primary and secondary demolition tasks - like breaking down concrete and separating rebar - in one simple operation.
Shears
Mobile and Mechanical Shears are widely used for demolishing steel and reinforced concrete structures, cutting cables and preparing scrap for mill use. And Caterpillar offers a wide range of both 360 ° rotation shears and straight shears, all perfectly matched to Cat machines to meet the needs of almost any operation.

Implosion is extremely expensive. I'd assume they would just rip this thing apart with the rig whigh posted above. ^

Re: Garden Garage Towers (New West End building)

Anyone been by there recently? "Fall 2012" was expected begin date.

Re: Garden Garage Towers (New West End building)

^You bastard. Why?

Re: Garden Garage Towers (New West End building)

c'mon dude, why would you do this?

Re: Garden Garage Towers (Basketball City) | 35 Lomasney Way | West End

So this guy was among the best proposals nominees of 2011. Its competitors-- Copley, Pier 4, Seaport Square, the Viridian, and 1325-1341 Boylston-- are all looking at some amount of progress today. Keep in mind that I don't know anything about this project's situation as I ask: what's going on with this project and why haven't we heard as much about it?

Re: Garden Garage Towers (Basketball City) | 35 Lomasney Way | West End

Cool - in the new render they've turned the "last tenement" into a Borg cube!

That picture at the top of the page from 2012 looks very Detroit. It will be nice to see that garage go.
