The New Retail Thread

Since we're talking about coffee shops, believe it or not, the Dunks in Downtown Melrose is beautiful. It has a separate loungey area with tvs and couches. All of the windows in that area are floor to ceiling and they open them up when it's nice out. Have yet to come across another Dunks as nice anywhere else.

Not sure if this was covered previously but AT&T is building a MASSIVE experience store in the heart of DTX. Right across from Bath and Body Works and Macys. This could be a great way to clean up that corner.

Free People in the Pru has closed. No word on what will replace it. Interesting because this was one of the few "old" stores that's made it through in that area into the "new Pru."

Lululemon Athletica and Luke's Lobster will be opening on either side of the VIA building in Seaport Square.

Was walking down Newbury St. Saw this tiny store - holy cow was it packed inside.

Yeah, not sure if it's a pop up. It's been around since at least June. Pretty fun!

Looks like it's been there since 2012. Opened by some Harvard business graduates. The fairy shop has morphed into HP only.

Looks like I have a reason to bring my wife into the city. Hray!

Two new restaurants in the general Theatre District/Common/Park Square area have disclosed their names through signage (soon to open):

Mooncusser Fish House, point building corner of Stuart and Columbus at Arlington.
Explorateur in the Masonic Grand Lodge corner of Tremont and Boylston.

"Mooncusser"...really? I'd love to hear the branding analysis on that one.

ICYMI: Tavern Road will close later this month, the Fort Point restaurant announced today. Located at 343 Congress St., Tavern Road opened in early 2013 and has been an important part of the neighborhood’s growth over the past four years, from its well-loved bar scene to its approachable menu, spanning charcuterie and “nose-to-tail” cooking, global small plates, and more.

Tavern in the Square in Porter closed last night.

One of the CVS locations in Harvard Square (the smaller one next to Otto pizza) also closed, thank god.

It'll be a short closure:

It looks like Tavern in general is abandoning Cambridge for the greener pastures of suburban shopping centers.

Also, I always assumed that CVS held onto that (awful) store because the instant they closed Walgreens would grab it. Let's see if that happens!
