I guess crews were taking advantage of the weekend service suspension.

Anyone know whether any imminent development is planned for this site?

Its sad to see the historic building tore down but it was becoming a hazard with it being vacant and the Fire Department had posted an "X" on the building 3 years ago.

I was surprised to see that Waltham was getting a Market Basket uphill from the old Polaroid HQ. Seems like a strange place to put it (not particularly good street access), but it'll sure have good visibility from 128.

It is much further along than in this Patch article (brick siding is complete and there were company trucks docked at it)

Right now it is not great access but the master plan is to build another 1 Million Square Feet in the next few years and build a new road to connect Third Avenue to Main Street.

Dowtown Streetscape Update: Crews have now excavated the sidewalk on Moody Street from Newton Line to Crescent/Derby Street.

Downtown Streetscape project is well underway now. Some photos from today.

Work has started on a new development at Totten Pond Road & Third Avenue. Crews are currently preparing the 3 existing office buildings at 470, 486, 504 Totten Pond Road for demolition and in its place will build a new office and shopping development. A special permit for the 425,000 Square Foot project was approved in 2008 but work is just starting now.

Looks like they have a tenant now:

BTW, scooping Mat on a Waltham project deserves an "I killed Sirius Black!" style cackle these days.. :)

Streetscape Project Update: Crews have now poured the new concrete sidewalk on Moody Street from Burger King to Newton Line.

Also street paving work begins Monday on...

Beaver Street (Forest Street to Waverley Oaks Road)
Warren Street (Beal Road to Watertown Line)
Main Street (Everett Street to Hill Road)
Vernon Street (Entire Length)

We now have a name for the new luxury condos at 36 River Street: "Currents on the Charles"

You've got to love real estate marketing speak.

"Currents is located close to public transportation including the commuter rail to North Station and South Station and the Riverside bus stop to Downtown Boston is just steps away. Rather drive? The proximity to Route 95 [*Route* 95?!], the Mass Pike …"

The immediate neighborhood is hardly urban; it's basically the suburban strip mall wasteland between Waltham and Watertown. Both commuter rail stops are over a mile away, the bus at its door (the 558) runs once an hour at best, and the 70 bus is over half a mile away.

If you've got a car, it is a nice area, and I will admit that proximity to Russo's is quite the perk.

But an bustling riverside neighborhood (the Charles is closer to a stream at this point than a river) this is not.

There main draw is to bring in people who commute by bike or walking as it is being built along the Blue Heron Path.
