What I hate about Boston

So what is their argument? "Well we would accept the award if we had more open space and we tore down those god awful towers. But since we don't we'll be little bitches about it." God how many more examples does one need before one realizes these neighborhood associations should be disregarded.

Copley Place is not one of my favorite developments -- its interaction with the street is horrid on all sides except the Southwest Corridor at Dartmouth Street (the entrance by Nieman Marcus). The shopping mall part of it seems now to cater only to the overclass, since it no longer has a cinema, bookstore, or food court.

^^Would your feelings towards Copley Place dissuade you from agreeing that Back Bay, as a whole, is one of America's great neighborhoods?

the food court is gone? what is there now?

the former cinema and food court are now Barneys New York.

And yes, Copley Place used to have a very comprehensive newsstand, also gone now. It was just off the central court.

I worked at the Rizzoli for a couple of years when I was in high school. It bothers me that it's gone.

Nothing like a barter economy, eh? Seriously, I loved that bookstore. Is the one in New York still in business, or has the chain retreated to Roma?

It's still there. Great space. Haven't visited in a few years. Good place to get lost on a rainy afternoon.

ohhh. I thought you were talking about the current food court that houses the qdoba.

I don't know of any current food court or Qdoba in Copley Place -- where is this?

Copley Place used to have two bookstores -- Rizzoli and Lauriat's, both just off the central court. When the Lauriat's chain went under, a Brentano's replaced it. The Prudential Barnes & Noble killed that off.

I had no idea copley had a cinema. When did it close?

In Copley Place the upstairs was a Sbarro, a Chinese food place, and Mrs. Fields. Downstairs was Chili's. There's a Legal Seafoods upstairs now, next to Barneys New York. It was a Loews' theater multiplex, probably ten screens, v. small but nice because it was easily accessible from Back Bay and South End. Tended to show "smaller" films.

Built with 9 cinemas, later expanded to 11. See the link I posted above your comment. Its closing marked the end of any art or foreign film exhibition within the city limits of Boston (other than what is shown at the MFA), until the Stuart Street Playhouse reopened as a cinema last fall.

Restaurants that serve "pommes frites" that aren't also charging MacPrices.

Waitstaffpersons who ask if I am "still working" on my meal.

Bars that don't have Guinness on tap.

The people who go kissy-kissy like a bunch of French generals when they see each other.

People who think "mmm-hmmm" is an acceptable substitute for "you are welcome".

Wine lists that include Mass. wine.

Airlines that have swapped stewardesses for "securitie" or "attendants".

Delta Airlines.

American Airlines.

Jeremy Jacobs.

I'm guilty.

I always catch myself in the middle of it or right after and just want to facepalm but I just keep doing it.
