Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

This whole thing with the shadows is just a thinly veiled attempt to extract more $$.

The FOPG, etc, sure. But Galvin? What does he need money for?
(Not really suggesting Galvin's motivations are pure here. Just never really clear what Galvin's motivations might be.)

Sorry, I was blurring those two entities together in my comment - should have been more specific. The FOPG definitely saw a chance to fill their coffers and took it. Not as familiar with Galvin's stance. I'm guessing though that the changes to the shadow law might make it harder to either a) build in the future, in which he's doing developers a solid by reviewing the law, or b) the exemption might make it harder for community groups like FOPG to intervene in future cases. If anyone has a better idea of what's going on I'd be interested in your take.

Speedbump, but stupid nonetheless.

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

This is one location (Just build this fucking thing) This garage is nowhere land. Nobody goes down this street.

There is no reason there should be a hold up on this development.

Amen. This friggin city sometimes...

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Galvin is doing a "hey, look at me over here" thing in order to get his name in the paper as most people have forgotten he's still around. The article to its credit mentioned that neither the developer or the city has heard from him up until now, which is awfully suspicious if he had any legitimate concerns.

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Shirley just posted (skressel). More total hogwash! I'd like to see somebody with an account go on here and completely destroy her. (preferably somebody other than Tosh)

I took a shot at her but I don't have time to post a lengthy screed.

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

The Newark Star Ledger Globe hasn't been worth reading in 20 years! My guess (about something I haven't read about!) is that this is either:

the equivalent of referring it to the Committee on Counties in the legislature;

or, when the nuisance litigation comes, the defense can say "we went the extra measure to study this, your Honor, so no need for you to substitute your judgment".

This. Relatively obscure constitutional officer throwing his weight around because he can.

+1. And probably to try and get a little bit of NIMBY vote.

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

You are as deluded about conditions relative to Winthrop Sq. traffic circulation as you are about the impact of casino traffic on the Sullivan Sq. area.

EVERYBODY goes down this street: traffic exiting Post Office Square/eastern Financial District to get down to 93 South & 90 West. Literally dozens of MBTA buses--501, 503, 504, 505, 553, 554, 556, 558, 459, and don't forget the sardine can 7s to Southie--from 4 pm to 6 pm clogging things up. It all smashes together at Summer/Otis/Kingston.

On bad days--usually once a month--the gridlock at Summer/Otis/Kingston backs all the way down Otis, wraps Franklin and reaches Congress, and lasts for several light cycles.

Yes, technically Devonshire has very light traffic in Winthrop Sq. But it is still embedded within the larger circulatory system of Winthrop Sq., which is perennially perilously oversaturated from 4-6 pm.

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Is there a bus stop in front or close by to this tower. If they had put the friggin observation deck like they were supposed to that would have been a key bus stop to have.

I spent the day on some trails near Vail Summit for a bit of back country boarding above the timberline with some old friends. and you ?

You mean being within walking distance of all four rapid transit lines and South Station isn't enough?

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Tru, but i meant more like if we got the obs deck there could be a bus that drops tourists at the tower for it. But yea theres not and that is absolutely good enough.

You're right, this tower doesn't suffer from a lack of transit access. But to answer the original question, yes. Yes there is. There are bus stops at Federal/Franklin, Franklin/Devonshire, Congress/Franklin, and Otis/Summer. All within +/- 2 minutes from this building.

Shirley never really bothered me. But seriously her disdain for this future development on this site makes her look batshit crazy.
