I saw a small blurb on NECN Boston yesterday about Winthrop Center meeting a milestone in energy efficiency. Some cool drone video of the exterior.

A critique to Millennium partners and NECN of the video. The outdoor deck could have had a couple of more people, even if they were just extras! They should not show a raw space, it was just sad in my opinion. That shot of the front street entry, they should have shown a couple of people standing out front, maybe stage a valet and car or something. They should have shown people in the connector lobby! I can't believe there wasn't one shot of the connector lobby! And then showing a waitress standing in an empty restaurant?? Is there even a restaurant in the building?

Regarding the energy efficiency; knocking on the "triple pane windows". What is this a window commercial!? What a joke. They should have toured the mechanical penthouse with all the new technology of a modern boiler room! Explain how modern boilers have new computer technology and work in "swing season" efficiently! Maybe explain how the heating system recirculates air indoor and outdoor air in exchangers! How light fixtures are programmed to turn off and on in stairwells. They didn't even explain what the passive requirements were. They missed a big opportunity.

Satellite view on google maps 3d appears to have been updated. What's going on with the green roof on the lower portion?

That’s the roof over the pool area, which sits atop the highest office floor. Note the area closest to the tower isn’t green, that’s private terrace space for a small number of units on the lowest residential floor. I believe the only private outdoor space in the building. The green isn’t accessible, it’s more of a space filler and makes for a softer view for units on that side.

Source: I’ve been in a unit oriented in that direction and asked the same thing.

I'd still love to know what, specifically, was the problem with that "decorative column" at the main entrance that caused it to be removed (the "decorative" part, anyway) *and* what the hold-up is re: replacement.

I will have to experience this myself, but that photo of the Interior Connector seems cold and uninviting. It's not a space that I would want to hang out for long periods of time. The BOA glass lobby a block away with the large screens and Blue Bottle coffee is so much better in my opinion.

But, duuuuude - it’s the GRAND connector, man! For all to enjoy! It really is for everyone and truly ties the urban fabric together. Total success

What a disappointment. Personally, I hope MP never gets to build again in our city.
