The main issue with the building is that the lower tower's pleats are too shallow and too closely placed. The crown looks better.

Pleats and alternating windows... the poor persons' (aka VE loving client) "architecture".
 
Pleats can be an important component of gorgeous designs (1congress, 1 Dalton), but can’t single-handedly make the boring somehow fascinating (Winthrop).

Yeah that 1 Dalton is a real dime-a-dozen. If you want to see where architecture really goes to die, start with the last 20 years of Canadian residentials. Imagine our 5-over-1 dreck, but 40 stories tall!

Look at Winnipeg's new tallest building. It looks like God took a dump on Winnipeg. Boston has some of the highest quality modern architecture in North America compared to the garbage most of these other cities are churning out.

For reference, Winnipeg's tallest looks like 100 other towers in/around Vancouver and probably 200 towers in/around Toronto. The infection of crap has unfortunately spread to Montreal and Calgary as well.

At least Canadian cities aren't afraid to build a ton of high-rise residential density, unlike their American counterparts!

I've always thought that all the high-rise residential towers around Toronto are nice, although nothing architecturally stunning.

A great deal of those towers have proven to be very expensive (to rent/own) and also very shoddy, to put it mildly. I'm for density, sure, but let's not seek to emulate such blatant greed-before-quality construction.

Also One Dalton really isn't a dime a dozen. LA has two of them in Century City 🤷‍♂️. It's just tall in a city that doesn't have a lot of tall buildings. The only towers of outstanding design and quality in Boston in the past 10 years are the new State Street Tower and the St Regis Residences. Despite both being relatively short, both stands out on their own based solely on their design.

Agree re: State Street and St. Regis, but there was a lot of intentional, thoughtful planning behind 1 Dalton and it was executed flawlessly (other than the missing lit-up 4 Seasons logo). It's a pretty special tower.

Certainly took the easier/cheaper route on the windows than 1 Dalton, which to me are the beautiful part with their curvature.
