Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

I was joking above, but Im not loving it at all.

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

well they have The Towers (my former home, *barf*) right down the block. so they have architecturally incongruent buildings on both ends of the block, but at least this doesn't look like a 60's era public housing project. Not bad but definitely could have been better, not least because of the magnificent architecture immediately adjacent (frat houses, shelton hall, brownstones, really nice details)

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

They should have just built this on the parking lot right next to it, facing Kenmore Square. In that location something like this would have fit perfectly. and they probably should have just built new brownstones facing bay state.

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

Keep in mind that the lowrise section of this structure (underneath the tarp) is designed to reflect the historic elements of Bay State Road. All and all, I think this is shaping up nicely. The proportions of the mid-rise section are spot on.

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

I'm really sick of that asymmetrical window design. It's so lazy, and here, so cheaply applied.

So now we have wholly new buildings essentially aping the design compromises of a facadectomy. Awesome.

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

^This is nothing new -- do a bit of research.

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

It's not, but nothing has ever resembled a real facadectomy so closely before. This looks like any number of the midrises peeking out from over 19th century rowhouses in DC.

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

I'm hesitant to categorize this as facadectomy. There are clearly modern elements at play here (the contemporary bay windows):

I don't think anyone would be fooled into thinking this is a historic structure, nor would that be the intent.

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

I'm probably having trouble interpreting the renderings, but the depiction of the windows lower on this page looks a little different from the picture further up the page?

As long as the brickwork on the lower facade doesn't look all precasty, I won't be hating on it.

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

The one I've just posted is an accurate rendering. The one posted by Justin is outdated.

No precast materials are being used here.

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

Justins rendering looks better, why did the remove the bay windows from the taller portion of the building?

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

Bay State Road front not living up to the renderings.

Wow, that looks pretty bad from that angle. Could be saved by a different skin, but I don't have high hopes.

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

Renderings? That doesn't appear to match the mockup!

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

Value engineering 101.

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

Jesus, what an insult to the neo-Georgian townhouse building next door.

Re: B.U. East Campus Center (100 Bay State Rd)

It looks like an elementary school.
