What I hate about Boston

Fucking Pink Hats!

All having a good time and enjoying themselves at sporting events, ugh!

They just don't get it! They don't understand what it means to be a real sports fan.

Fucking losers.

Exactly. "Curse of the Pink Hat". Won't be another Championship until 2093 when they pull Neil Diamond's MOOG out of a Sudbury pond.

Buncha LOOSAHS!

Lack of affordable housing (real affordable housing, not those upper middle class type required in developing condo towers) in the pipeline.

Read about how Co-op City provides 15,000+ units. Sure they are ugly and gritty but its pretty impressive how much housing they can provide and it certainly gives you that incredible density feeling.

A smaller scale in Boston would be nice.

'Affordable' housing in Boston means subsidized housing for politically directed demographics. Average working middle class people, especially with children, need not apply.

Boston would REAL have affordable middle class housing if:

1. Current stock wasn't full of students.
2. BPS was an actual school system and not an employment and stuck in the 1970s social engineering entity.
3. The BRA changed its process and significantly up-zoned many areas along transit lines.

Had someone present from the Fenway CDC the other day. "Affordable housing" (by the city definition of 80-120% AMI) ends up meaning an income of $66,000-$99,000 a year in Fenway/Kenmore.

^^^ The entitlement mentality.

So a city should never build housing for people from the middle class or lower (or the lower 85%). Pray tell kind and generous sir, where would these folks live? In shantytowns? In the streets? In shelters? Would you prefer the city fill itself with empty condo towers where only 15% of the population can live and the 85% who couldn't live in the park. Would you prefer that more people use condos as investments than a place to live?

Did I call for public subsidized housing? Did you know that Co-op City is reserved for those who do not belong in Section 8 housing? Did I call for cheap housing in prime locations?

But banish the thought, this is entitlement, not due to the fact that demand for cheaper housing outstrip the supply. And why should housing be built for the middle to lower class? They do not deserve a place to live, at least not within a city. No there shouldn't be any small apartments that are more along their price range. No, only the upper middle class and up should enjoy living within the city limit. The rest should live far where they cannot be seen.

Oh and I'll add 'hate people who thinks building a reasonably priced housing apartment is considered entitlement' as what I hate about Boston.

So we really need government subsidies and preferential treatment for people that could afford market rent in many areas of the city. I'm so glad CDCs are getting paid by the government to offer discounted housing to people that can clearly afford to pay market prices.

The only thing anyone is entitled to, or has a right to is what they can provide for themselves, whether it's shitbox studio in Revere or a $10m spread in Wayland.

Okay, why are we arguing about public subsidized housing if no one here is even advocating the building of publicly subsidized housing?

^ Because the free market worshipers are incredibly defensive?

This.

Honestly, I didn't call for a city mandate for developers to build real affordable housing, only that I wish there were more developments for complexes or apartments with a price range similar to Co-op city. Obviously, none of these should be located within the prime location of places like Beacon Hill, Back Bay, etc. but it would be nice for example, if developers decide to develop a small one to replace the industrial zone near BHCC or on the surface parking lots near Sullivan Station without any government subsidies and at market rate.

But people like kmp1284 think this is an assault on his free markets idealogies. Unbeknownst to him, not every residential building needs a indoor pool, gym, large kitchen, etc. They could build an apartment full of those crappy studios he mentioned. Without those, those studios, at market rate, would be at a reasonable price range. It's just there hasn't been one proposed in Boston, even though there are market demands for it and they would be feasible.

WFNX being sold...fuck Clear Channel and our descent into a homogenized music/radio region =/

Outside of academic fantasyland, what you propose is usually not economically feasible, and even when it is there remain more lucrative options for developers. Besides, there is already a huge supply of 'market rate' affordable housing in and around Boston. It's not necessarily new or in particularly great neighborhoods, but so what?

Cheer up...we might be getting a second syndicated country western station to replace it!!!

, please.)

Horrible news. So sad to hear about the sale. I'll definitely join in on every petition effort possible to keep the format. The loss of WBCN a few years ago was tragic as well.

Note: WBCN is trying to make a comeback with fan support.

It's sad WFNX is going away, but it's sort of like, "who cares?" Clearly not a ton of people or else they wouldn't be going away in the first place. The internet's made free form independent radio a dinosaur. It would be one thing if we lost access to bleeding edge hip new music, but we're not. It's just shifting to a new format. On top of that, we'll always have college radio.

People take college radio seriously?

This is the official end of alternative/rock in Boston.
