The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Re: TD Garden Towers

Why would they need to load during a concert? They could do it earlier or later or (preferably) overnight.

Re: TD Garden Towers

Rifleman, what would you want built here instead? I don't understand your objection at all.

Re: TD Garden Towers

No mention of the architect. Highly visible, what a plum assignment!

Ron, I don't know at this point what they should do to this area.

The North Station frontage between the Garden and Causeway street access is a disgrace. I feel like its like crossing a highway from Causeway Street to get to the Garden. (The Mammoth CVS is real fucking downer to the area) Is that 2-levels? The Garden just doesn't feel right.

The positive scenario for the area is Canal Street and the other side streets are not bad. Actually they are pretty cool.

A hotel, apartments, offices, and daily basic retail needs for residents in the west end, beacon hill, and north end is exactly what this area needs. It keeps foot traffic flowing outside of the rush hour shuffle and non-game days. You literally couldn't ask for anything else now, beyond a nice design. Which I hope we will be able to critique very soon.

Re: TD Garden Towers

A hotel, apartments, offices, .

We'll this covers every aspect of development in a area in Boston.

Hotel, Apartments and offices, don't forget retail. I think you miss the point.

As someone who actually lives in that area, the opposite's true. Places like CVS might not make headlines, but residents need them. If the Target and Stop and Shop actually get built, North Station will be just about the most convenient residential neighborhood in the city.

Re: TD Garden Towers

Honestly, I think this sounds great...of course it's dependent on the design but I'm not really sure what you're complaining about Rifleman.

This would go over the giant parking lot abutting the Garden at the end of Canal & Friend Sts, right? How can you complain about a giant residential & retail development? Especially since it's replacing the equivalent of a surface parking lot and covering up a giant blank wall?

Have you ever tried to schedule deliveries? They show up when they show up unless you pay through the nose. Strict traffic management policies for the new businesses proposed will be critical to prevent utter gridlock.

Re: TD Garden Towers

I can't imagine they won't have some sort of loading dock in the final plan. The entrance could be down "Legends Highway" and not be too horrible.

Pump and dump ... corruption ... corporate shit show ... Bob Kraft's Stadium ...
Boston has too many universities ... political hacks ... etc ... etc ... etc

The problem is not about the residential, apartments, hotels development for the area. The problem is planning and activating the access street level frontage from Causeway to the Garden which would probably be the key to making this area very lively & vibrant. Simple Fix. Will the Garden development make this happen?

I understand CVS is very convient not like you can't find one on every other 3 or 4 blocks. But seriously they have to use CVS as Causeway Street welcoming platform retail store to the home of Boston Garden sports area.

Maybe it does make sense. We are living a corporate world now.

Re: TD Garden Towers

If Delaware North is building this it should be called Lockout Point.

The New Garden has been here since 1995 what has the area actually accomplished? Nothing in my opinion I actually liked the area back in the 80's better.

Assembly Square Developments looks like it has more potential than North Station at this point.

I dont think anyone would argue that the place didn't at least have more character back then.

Re: TD Garden Towers

I guess it's all about what sort of characters you like to hang with! Me, I was never one to hang with shady characters! :)

Re: TD Garden Towers

But from where we stand today, with the old Garden being a sheet of asphalt and Assembly Square being an open field, it isn't like either is suffering a loss of character by being Disney-fied at this point.

I think character, being in the eye of the beholder, is about familiarity with detail (and details worth getting to know).

New stuff lowers average grit and familiarity, even at the same time its giving you a greater stock of future character. It'll turn out pretty well, I think.

Re: TD Garden Towers

Rifleman, I still do not understand what alternative you would prefer today, in 2013.

If this is to become a residential area, it does need boring but useful things like CVS. (As do Kendall Square and the Seaport, which also lack them.)
