Emerson College - Little Building Addition + Renovation | 80 Boylston St | Downtown

I'm going park this here, since the Little Building is pictured with the article:

The plan is for Emerson to jack up its endowment from $162M to $202M and inherit $10M of property in Vermont, in part to increase its bond rating for future (and refinanced past) construction projects.
Equilibria -- you missed the part about the students formerly at Marlboro College [about 200] and the tenured faculty who now be teaching at the Marlboro Institute for Liberal Arts and Interdisciplinary Studies @ Emerson

its sort of like when Harvard absorbed Radcliffe except for the real estate part

I didn't miss it. I just doubt Emerson gives a damn. This is money and real estate in exchange for some promise that the students and professors will have more options than if the school had just closed.

Equilibria -- I bet that they do give a damn
Marlboro College is about 1/20 the size of Emerson and yet it has $30M endownment and $10M worth of real estate -- that didn't come from thin air -- there might be some additional $ to tap motivated by the newly minted Marlboro Institute for Liberal Arts and Interdisciplinary Studies @ Emerson -- possibly with a retreat facility in Marlboro VT

Of course it's all about the money. I still believe that BU will sell the old Wheelock campus within a decade.

Sorry to bump but this looks beautiful lit at night

Yea they did an amazing job with this building and the filled in light/air gaps came out very good.

TomofB -- Isn't BU still shy of its committment made to Mayor Menino to house most of its students on its own Campus -- well the relatively low density Wheelock campus provides a place for another BU Student Village possibly with some cooperative agreement with a private developer who would build and run the facility for BU and also be able to ground lease -- some space for their own project

No major U is going to be selling land in Boston or Cambridge -- they are all about acquisition and if not needed for their own stuff now -- make money MIT-style by being developers

Simmons College will likely be selling its residential campus once they consolidate on their academic campus. Do you think that BU would be allowed to build high rise residences on the Wheelock site? The current academic buildings at the Fenway campus are grossly underused. It is too far from the Charles River Campus to locate departments there that serve undergraduates. One possibility would be to relocate the Schools of Theology and Social Work there since they are graduate students only.

TomofB -- BU's various Campi [e.g. Medical, Main, Wheelock] are closer together than Harvard's diaspora between: Business, Medical, Sports, New Complex in Boston and Law, College and various museums and Radcliffe [whatever its current function] in Cambridge -- despite the eponymous North Harvard Street connecting with Cambridge [even in a perverse geographical sense]
