One Kenmore Square | 560 Commonwealth Avenue | Kenmore Square

This is on the
99 A Street

for approval tonight: LINK

What a waste of a link -- to be fair to people without subscriptions to the Globe, etc, --the links should be to primary official sites that have free access
I know it takes a bit more homework -- its just nicer that way

[MOD EDIT: Stop backseat modding in a useless, petty way.

In the future try:

Curious: guess i missed something, but whatever became of the 2nd hotel tower,
re; the 19 story/ 242' mid-rise at the rear of the Hotel Buckminster,
called 655 Beacon St calling for 295 rooms/73 parking ???

The presentation at tonight's board meeting stipulated
the possibility going even higher after approval.....

Not sure how that would come about.

I'd put the over under of this at never gonna happen. I'm sure the opposition from the Coop building next to it will be immense. (Even though I hope that this does go through, it's a great spot for some added density).

Many (MANY) people came out in support of the project, residents, union shop people, JP Yimby, and people generally expressing much interest in seeing Kenmore Square rise to past and future glory!! Holy crap, is it possible to get actual towers built in Kenmore Square?

~3/1 ratio yimby's/nimby's;
Nimby's "dirty, polluted air, traffic, cars, pollution, smog, height is too extreme, there's too much shadow, way too huge for the area, too much wind in Kenmore Square, way far too out of proportion, WE're gonna live right near the construction site, gonna be noisy, loud, we're concerned for our health, our quality of life horribly impacted, you're stealing from people, you're creating a target for terrorism...... terrorists searching for ways to kill people........... THIS IS IT~~ NOW YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE!!"

w/ rebuttals going into much detail, including any concerns (the lack thereof) of the Fenway Sports Group...

tower Approved by unanimous vote.

So was this approved?

Edit: Sorry just saw this. Phone did not see different font types.

Tell us more about this "going taller after approval" idea. Given the 3 YIMBYs for every 1 NIMBY, and given 299' proposed for the air rights on the pike (and given 3 light rail lines converging just beneath) 299' seems like a good neighborhood height all around.

The Globe is always free. I’ve been reading it free for years. Just clear your browser each time, boomer.
You’re welcome.

I believe that the proponent stated that it could go as high as 310' (or was it 320') if the board would approve. They didn't take a vote on it going taller before they started to introduce the next project.

It's already 315' to the "official" mech top. The 299' isn't all the way to the roof.

Shmessy -- what a waste of a post
[MOD EDIT: Stop it with this petty bullshit]

I used to read it for free as I used to read the BBJ for free -- but recently both have done something that knows about anonymous browsing -- I get a few and then start getting subscription messages

Odurania -- Fenway Park is a lot taller than the top of the wall of the Green Monster:
  1. The seats and the wall to keep the people from falling out onto the street
  2. The part of Fenway behind home plate where the Old 406 Club was located and the top of the structure is way above the top of the Green Monster
  3. Even the Left Field upper box seats [aka Sky views] are higher than the Green Monster
  4. The Giant Scoreboard in Right Field
  5. and then of course there are the Light Towers -- probably close to 100 ft

how did you come up with 315'?
i figured it was close to that, but couldn't find the exact height in any renders.

Weigh: i'm unclear about what your post (above) is referencing.

Why did they get rid of the second building, and is the first really taller? That would put it over 300' since it was originally ~296' to the top of the crown.

I don't think they got rid of it - it's a different developer. This meeting/slide deck dealt only with Korff's building.

i hope this is the case. :)

I liked the original design a lot, but I love beyond belief the current incarnation of this. Hopefully we get something similar to the original one somewhere else in the city!

On a side note, it's too bad the imbeciles who knocked down that corner building by the Citgo sign didn't have more vision and guts like this developer!

i got the impression by their careful choice of words--they were probably talking
like, a floor or 2, or amenity/upper floor height/s--but, nothing dramatic.
It also seems they'll be using the latest floor-to-floor minimizing methodology,
as seen recently in the Seaport & elsewhere.

Has this project changed much from what was originally proposed? The BCDC presentation that @Equilibria shared earlier in the month shows a few tweaks, but I don't remember any proposals too different from what we are getting now.

^^He's referring to the original design from the spring, 2018,
which came back with the latter, radical design in Jan, 2019.
It was significantly more bland than the latter version--now approved.
When the more radical design, and new traffic plan was introduced,
it looked like the strategy was changed to no longer present the
2 buildings together, but to get the first one approved--
then bring forth the 2nd project for approval (later).

i wonder if Cityfolk realize how much Kenmore Square is about to change.
