Have been saying I hope this development becomes a cafe because this area desperately needs a proper cafe.

Not sure where else to put this, but the South End Walgreens on Washington Street is closing on July 15. The Facebook rumor mill is a poor place get information from, but they're claiming that shrinkage is at least partially driving the decision.

CVS also recently closed their store at the corner of Tremont and Herald. Seems like both companies are set on leaving the neighborhood entirely, with the exception of the Ink Block CVS and the one next to Back Bay, both of which are probably considered to be in "better" areas.

The Tremont and Herald CVS long seemed like a temporary location while they got the Ink Block one up and running.

Ralph Lauren Acquires Newbury St. Flagship for $37M

“An LLC linked to Ralph Lauren has acquired their Newbury Street location for $37,800,000. Located in the heart of Boston’s Back Bay, 93 Newbury Street is a prominent retail building known for its historic charm and strong street presence. Originally designed in 1872 with a distinctive retail façade added in 1925, the building formerly housed the well-known Kakas Furs store, one of the city's oldest furriers. Spanning approximately 12,960 square feet, the property has been home to Ralph Lauren since 2013.”

"......The Facebook rumor mill is a poor place get information from, but they're claiming that shrinkage is at least partially driving the decision....."

Walgreens (like George Costanza) went swimming in a cold pool?

Shoplifting gets a lot of the buzz on social media about retail closure, but shrinkage actually covers much more than shoplifting -- it is any source of lost inventory. The National Retail Federation says that 65% of shrinkage is employee theft, less than 30% is shoplifting (the rest is mishandling or damage of goods).

It was a joke 😁

“In-N-Out may open a Massachusetts location once a patty-making facility is established within 300 miles of the state.

The chain insists on fresh food—no freezing, pre-packaging, or microwaving.

Current states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, Utah.”

This is such a non-news item. "In-N-Out" may expand."

New restaurant @ CambridgeSide

^I would guess this might be in the vacant former World of Beer restaurant space based upon this description from the license app.
