Can someone please explain how a city like Newton can have such awful roads? I was driving through there yesterday and was blow away at how bad they were. Potholes everywhere, cracks too.

That would involve spending money on roads and everyone (especially in Newton) knows that roads are free.

Unsure of what button you are trying to push, but the tax rate is fairly high in Newton and overrides are generally passed every time.

I image it would have to do with the recent weather and where they are in their lifespan. Where I live, roads that were fine two weeks ago look like they been through a blitzkrieg, whereas two streets over are still fine because they have been repaved within the last few years.

Nice work. I was thinking about trying my hand at something like that. Any tips?

I'm learning arcGIS, and I made a map. Nothing special, but I thought I would share.

It makes a really persuasive case that space on the "shopping streets" devoted to car parking is not the problem and not the solution and could be taken away and better devoted to bikes and bus.

I'd love to see a similar map of Porter Square, which would demonstrate that the whole "outbound" curb lane should be bus-only during the evening rush. Today about 8 people are "convenienced" by those spots--an absurdly small fraction of parking available-- while about 800 bus riders are inconvenienced--an overwhelming share of people using the street.

So does anyone have an idea which current project this is from?

It's from a friend of a friend on Facebook and showed up in my news feed. I can't tell which project it's from and it's aggravating me to no end.

The "Two Hun" on the facade across the street is 200 Berkeley Street. That would mean this picture was taken from Liberty Mutual's (older) HQ across the street, if I'm not mistaken?

I have no idea what they're doing there, however.

Edit: ninja'd by DD.

Awesome, thanks. It seemed like it was taken a few days ago there were a few pics in the set. I don't usually Facebook stalk, but for construction photos I can make an exception. I'll have to ask what's going on.

How is it that McCourt manages to get all of the major highway projects in the Metro area? Or at least it seems that way.

This made me LOL. I'm going to hell.

You're definitely not alone. My Facebook feed the past few days has had posts about being "jealous MH370 went to The Island" and other LOST references.
