Random thought but why does the automated announcement on the green line say "no smoking please" at Boylston and no other stops? From my understanding it's a pretty well known fact that smoking is prohibited at all MBTA stations

It also does at Northeastern.

The BL also announces "Federal Law requires priority seating be available to seniors and/or persons with disabilities." randomly at Aquarium.

I think they are just general announcements placed so that the most people hear them -- Boylston is right after/before Park and Aquarium is right after/before State.

Emerson ;)

As a side note, if any of you are lucky enough to see a test cycle of the GL announcement system, you get to see a whole bunch of unused crazy animations and messages like "HAVE A NICE DAY!!" and various smiley faces on the boards. They should use some of them and brighten people's days.

Ted is back!

Seen in preview, Johnnie's new? home at 314 Shawmut Ave, South End (above the laundromat); Boston Fertility Group (fake) at 435 Warren Street, Roxbury; Boston Public Garden, South End church at West Newton and Columbus; 81 Broadway, Chelsea (Tammy-Lynn & Ted's apartment); Custom House; Mill Pond Diner; Boston Harbor.

Anyone watching Sons of Liberty on History Channel?

I get that they have to take certain, uh, liberties for the sake of TV entertainment, but the thick, modern Boston accents are a bit much.

The set design is pretty good though. Much better than the Adams miniseries.

I like it, and it's a lot of fun, but it's funny how soapy they made it.

I've only seen part one so far. It does get a bit dramatic to the point of being silly in spots but I am interested in seeing the second part.

Edit: Just watched part two. No longer sure if the production value can compensate for the butchering of history.

Worcester sharks and Manchester (NH) monarchs among the 5 AHL teams moving to California. Most likely both cities will get ECHL teams

http://theahl.com/stats/schedule.php?view=attendance

Worcester is among the worst in the league for avg. attendance but Manchester is right in the middle of the pack. Portland's attendance is the worst I'm surprised they're still in the ahl.

ECHL attendance is about the same as the AHL but a slightly lower tier..

I suppose we have enough high level hockey in New England with the Bruins, Providence Bruins, all the D1 colleges but the Monarchs move surprised me

I'm surprised- Portland has a history of good attendance even with an arena that's on the smaller end. Playing in Lewiston for a season (not sure if it was just one or more) didn't help, but I'd be surprised if they didn't get better no,bees going forward. Portland has a history of good support for its minor league teams. That's why Manch and Worcester lost their- they've always been mediocre at best as far as attendance goes.

Oh, and GO PATS!

ECHL Commissioner has been quoted as saying Worcester isn't getting a team for the 2015-2016 season. I'll have to find the quote, but the T & G had it somewhere over the course of last week.

Edit: Found it.

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Barring some sort of hockey Hail Mary, it does not look like Worcester will have professional hockey next season.

Brian McKenna, the commissioner of the ECHL, said this afternoon that there is “nothing on the table” in terms of a franchise for Worcester at present, although there have been a couple of inquiries. He ruled out the league placing a team in Worcester for the upcoming season of 2015-16.

I enjoyed this new blog & infographic from Tim Love of Utile:

DESIGN COMMUNICATION AND RHETORIC

The modes of communication change dramatically during the course of a design process

Architects are not builders, but we need to be knowledgeable enough that we can create written and graphic instructions for a building team...

It's not even remotely on the same level as John Adams. It's like a CW version of American colonial history. Gross.

Steve Martin's Stellar '70s-Era Concrete Fortress Costs $11M

Banjo player and late-blooming novelist Steve Martin just listed his 7,377-square-foot Montecito mansion for $10,999,500. But this is Steve Martin we're talking about, so he's probably more than willing to work out a payment plan in jovial smiles and dad jokes. Designed by Roland E. Coate, Jr, a Venice Beach native, the home can be classified as 1970s residential brutalism to the max.

Here is a good take down of Sons of Liberty.

http://allthingsliberty.com/2015/01...hind-history-channels-sons-of-liberty-series/

While I knew that they were playing fast and loose with the actual history for the sake of TV drama, it was depressing to realize how little I actually knew about the that time period.
On the plus side, I've learned a ton of local (and American) history just from fact checking the series.

And I still really like the set design. Adams always felt like actors standing in front of matte painting. This felt like the actors were running around the Blackstone Block expanded over the size of a city.

I cant fucking take it anymore.

We need to fucking ban this emoticon now.
