Parade organizers expected to reconsider ban on group of gay veterans

Organizers of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in South Boston are expected to meet Friday to reconsider a ban on a gay veterans group, as a pacifist military organization that has sought for years to march in the signature event said it had been barred yet again...

I think a much more meaningful statement from OutVets and the supporting pols would be to say whatever you decide, we're not interested in marching in your silly parade and kowtowing to a couple of dirtbag Southie bigots.

This. Also, despite the media reports of "progress" and the organizers "willing to negotiate," that is not really the case. The parade organizers "negotiation" to allow them to march involves OutVets not marching with the rainbow flag on their banner/pins on their jackets, as they claim the rainbow flag banner violates their "code of conduct."

First they can shove their code of conduct up their ass and secondly, OutVets is not going to compromise who they are to march in a stupid parade.

This story has NATIONAL attention now. CNN, NBC, ABC all have picked it up. The nation is being exposed to Southie's rampant homophobia.

To be fair to Southie, it has changed. This seems to represent a minority from the "old neighborhood" who can't seem to let go. I know about a dozen people who live there and for the most part, they are educated and open-minded people who look at the parade as an excuse to get out of Southie for the day.

Headed to Seattle tomorrow for a few days. Anyone have any suggestions? Preferably off the beaten path?

Shiro Sushi. Do the open-ended Omakase. Ask for Aaron Pate. He's awesome. It'll set you back $150 - $200, but worth it IMO.

Has anyone else seen a Crystal Transport motor coach being escorted by two Mass. State Police cruisers? I've been seeing this nearly every morning between 8:45 and 9 coming out of the O'Neill Tunnel at Exit 23/Gov't Center, continuing on North Street, and taking a left on Congress (I go the other way on Congress, so I lose it after that). Any idea what that's all about?

I believe the conjecture I have seen is that it is for the jury for the Aaron Hernandez trial.

I don't know how often you guys travel to this part of the world, but I thought I'd post this anyways. This museum is a wet dream for any us wannabe urban planners who enjoy learning about the development of cities. Obviously it is based around Singapore, but much can be learned about other cities as well.

Re: What's Happening With Project X?

Less parking for new apartment buildings..... and more moaning and complaining (comments section)

Create a new law that bars people who live in certain new build apartment complexes to get resident parking stickers. Problem solved.

It's very interesting how the number of cars in Cheslea has doubled in the past 10 years. Gentrification at work?

Re: What's Happening With Project X?

Reading through some of the user comments, I find several others who share my view of being pro-car in the city. I'm not so alone on this after all. :)

Move to Houston if you're pro car.

Or Phoenix. I'll never forget driving in the middle of the Arizona desert on the interstate with no other buildings in sight, whilst passing a sign that said "Entering Phoenix City Limits" !!

Phoenix sq. mileage: 518 sq. mi.
Boston sq. mileage: 89 sq. mi.

metro populations are almost identical (~4.6 million)

Actually a bit worse when just comparing land areas:

Phoenix: 516.704 sqr. mi.
Boston: 48.42 sqr. mi.

Comparing metros:
Phoenix: 14,565.76 sq mi
Boston: 4,500 sq mi

With the Boston metro area having a bit more people.
