Are they farming up there?

Some shade tress would be nice. Both for the deck users, as well as for street presence.

I think the green roof section is in shadow much of the day. Any farming would be root crops (beets, turnips), or leafy vegetables.

Good point. The morning sun will end up being even more blocked by the new roundy building, and then none until the afternoon. Mostly in summer time at that.

So never mind shade trees for deck users, but would still look better from the street.

Won't be surprised if JuicePress and Chloe uses produced from the urban farms. There was an informational meeting about urban farming in Boston at my work place earlier this year and interest in having them on buildings and using the produce from it to supply restaurants on the ground floor has been relatively high. This is great for sustainability; I hope all future urban developments would consider including a setback near the bottom of their buildings large enough to support urban farming.

It is WAY more sustainable to fill that space with dense housing and workspaces than it is to grow a few token vegetables.

I think that is why the 17C pioneered the concept of the "L'Orangerie"

the latter is in Moscow where an Orange in the winter is such a pleasure

I'm pretty sure juice bars are the new froyo. I give them another year and you'll see a lot of them closing up shop.
