Re: 45 Province St

Really Milton? This shot looks it was taken from the Pru or if further back at around Brookline.

Re: 45 Province St

your right! I originally posted a pix of the W-hotel from Milton, then realize it was on the wrong thread! changed the pix but not the words!

Re: 45 Province St

Looks sharp...when the black wall of death is hidden in shadow.

Re: 45 Province St

Even if they had used white panels instead of black panels it would have been OK.

Re: 45 Province St

I still think something will be done with the black wall. It is ridiculous to have such a beautiful building with a black wall. I'm not sure what will happen, but surely there must be some aesthetic covering that none of us have heard about. I seem to remember someone on this thread a while back talking to one of the construction workers who told him there would be some faux window treatment on the wall. Maybe they plan to run long tubes of blue neon up the sides of the wall, that would be kind of cool, but only at night. This whole black wall thing has been a mystery, and if it is to be changed, has been a very well kept secret from the community at large.

No, then it would have REALLY looked like every other junk building thrown up over the past few years.

Nope! these are the panels that are here to stay!

Re: 45 Province St

The fact that they actually put something up rather than just painting the concrete (which I've seen far too much of) is good enough for me. Yes those panels are ugly, until some other building obscures it.

God, this is one of the nicest condos built in the US in the last 10 years and y'll have to find the littlest fault with it.

Re: 45 Province St

^ Province House Steps and Littlest Bar: you can add them --or their disappearance-- to this building's list of little faults. At what point do a bunch of little faults add up to a big one?

Re: 45 Province St

If the Province House steps don't return within a month or so of the building's opening then I'll worry about them. As it is, the building is still under construction and they are supposedly slated to return. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

You are of course correct about the Littlest Bar. There is no excuse for that.

I'm with Van on this, the good in this building still far, far outweighs the bad.

Now if we could pin the demise of the original Marliave's on this project, I might feel differently. ;)

And there's even more solace when you remember the garage it replaced.

Indeed, and maybe you can ;). Rickety finances in a restaurant on the edge of a construction site...

Re: 45 Province St

IIRC, they didn't pay their taxes for about a decade or so. Tough to blame the developers for that.

Re: 45 Province St

As per the bartender at the new Marliave, the Dept. of Rev. siezed and shuttered the old Marliave suddenly. People were in the midst of their lunch when the place was closed down.

Re: 45 Province St

OK!
We all agree that this dark steel wall is NOT the best to look at.

I live quite close to the Atelier 505 on Tremont st, and if it wasn't for the "lights" going on at the very top of the last floor, playing with different colors at different nights, that was going to be another "condo-building-just-built-in-Boston".
But how ever came out with that idea did something different, right and really cool.

So:
here we have a tall, long and dark wall of steel.
Nothing so "good looking" I agree.
But if that wall could be a modern canvas to be completed with light effects and maybe, because of it's very own position, a special event poster for a charity event right here in this great City..... why not?
I know, during day time it won't be that special, but at night it can actually make some magic, and if we can light up the Prudential tower for any special event happening around this city, why not doing for "that" wall of steel, it might work just great and even BETTER!
But if we're all here just to comment and criticize at every posting not much will ever be done.

I am from Rome, Italy, and I have seen many times how hard it is to try to make an ancient city into a modern one: good ideas, good projects and bad ideas, bad projects... you name it!
It's not easy, really IT IS NOT!
But we're still trying and when one out of ten projects does really work great we go for it (the new lights of the Colosseum are spectaculars, the Statione Termini Renovation is a very well planned project (building-to-plaza), and more... they really are, and I am very proud of it!)
Boston is the new city I truly love, a Great City that will become a very modern one while preserving its historic unique and beautiful roots.
Criticizing all the time any new and old project doesn't really help and it doesn't work well for Boston.
Those are my thoughts and believes.
Thank you for reading.

Make them all solar panels and I will approve it.

Re: 45 Province St

If they can reach the South End and pay for my electric bills, sure.... I'm with you.
