Allston-Brighton Infill and Small Developments

I didn't realize this was a new build in the yard of a subdivided lot. Great proportions and style. Uncommon to see that these days

I wonder how long it will take the S Crescent side to follow suite

Owner of two-story Brighton office building proposes adding three stories to create 42 apartments

Rendering of proposed five-story 697 Cambridge St.

“A developer has filed plans to add three more stories to a two-story office building building at 697 Cambridge St. at Dustin Street in Brighton and then turn the whole thing into 42 apartments.
Most of the apartments would be studios or one-bedroom units, with seven two-bedroom and three three-bedroom apartments, according to owner Sal Oweis's filing with the Boston Planning Department. The filing does not specify the number of affordable units, but under current city regulations, at least seven would have to be rented that way…..”

I looked this up on the map and I never realized what an enormous amount of land the Catholic Church has between Brighton and North Beacon. Wow, that’s going to be a huge redevelopment when they eventually give it up

Higher, higher! Taller, taller!

You'd think a teardown and clean build would be cheaper. Based on that render, lipstick on this piggy isn't cutting it.

Assuming the light red in the render is the same brick, this will probably look fine, if not pretty nice. However, it is a shame that the render is so poor that we can't really tell

^ That shopping plaza was owned by Harvard, wasn't it? And was part of their corridor running from Cambridge Street to the Pike? If so, that's surprising they'd sell that.

We must ban this type of construction if we want to have a city worth living in.

You would need single stair reform for anything else to be feasible. The large floorplate is an artifact of the double loaded corridor

This site is currently a parking lot and mostly vacant building. The project is a huge upgrade over that. The only major complaint is that the building could probably be taller, given what's going up on both Guest St and Braintree.
