Archstone North Point (The one that looks like the Landmark Center)

Awww....

Oh, Ron, don't be a sour grape.

I live directly across the street from Atelier. I have to agree, the building is terribly, terribly boring, regardless of what goes on inside the theaters.

The brick is ugly, the terraces are useless, there's never a sign of life from any of the units. Most people on the street have no idea what's going on above them (they probably think it's a homeless shelter), those who live above probably have no idea what goes on below them.

One day, my boyfriend was walking down Berkeley St. A car came out of the parking garage, behind Atelier. It stopped at the corner, Natalie Jacobsen got out, dropped her dog to the corner, let it pee, then scooped it up, got back in the car, and drove off.

That passes for being "neighborly" in the South End, I guess.

Ron, if you couldn't tell that I was referring solely to the appearance of the buildings they did (which you can only describe as "contemporary mediocre" at best), then I don't know what to say.

They should leave the blue on. This building will be so bland when everything comes off. Makes you wonder what was in the architects mind when he designed this.

Well, after being away for a little over a week and reading through our threads, it seems to me that the majority feel that we should leave our newly constructed condo buildings (in Cambridge and in South Boston) blue. I have to agree. I love blue. i think blue would work out. we have some well- received buildings that for all intensive purpose are "blue": the John Hancock tower, 111 Huntington, and 33 Arch Street appear blue.

Now, I know that all three of those are glass and on 33 Arch, it's more on one facade, but to the NIMBYs it's about the look of the building and not the building material. Unless a building is supposed to have an asbestos and uranium finish, all the Nimbys care about is how it looks.

To further my (yes, pointless) argument that blue is ok; two of the three buildings i mentioned were built in this millenium. I Know the locations of those are not the same as South Boston or Cambridge, but blue doesn't seem too far fetched. Even with the Nimbys.

^^^^

Guess I'm definitely in the minority on this one. I like color as much as the next guy but leaving the building blue (facade, not glass) would definitely be over the top.

I agree. I'm definately a blue glass guy (see the Hancock and Exchange Place) but not so much when it comes to facade. I guess it depends on the color blue and if they have another color to work off of it, like a white or grey.

I hope this building doesn't look like the other two in the picture from last page. I don't know what the style is called, but I cannot stand buildings like that. The Harbor Towers have almost created this ugly plaster looking facade that can only be grey, white or brown. It's horrible.

Just a related note--Archstone-Smith is being purchased by Tishman Speyer and Lehman Brothers.

^ lol, so Archstone Boston Common will probably have to change its name. That will be 4 name changes in about as many years for that building.

I've a suggestion for a new name: 660 Washington Street. Buildings with names instead of addresses bug me. I once went to International Place for a job interview when I was supposed to go to Exchange Place. If it weren't for that, I'd never be able to keep those two straight.

It dominates the view down Cambridge Street to Inman Square. Makes an impact.

Anyone have a link to this project's website? I cannot find it via the Archstone site. I would think they'd have something that shows renderings, plans, rents, etc.?

Man, that blue looks good.

Gonna go all drab. :(

Re: Archstone-Smith - Cambridge MA (Not NorthPoint)

Well they got what they wanted: a building.

Looked better with more color.

Re: Archstone-Smith - Cambridge MA (Not NorthPoint)

Damn, that is massive. But I gotta say I like it. The detail at the top is quite nice.

In fact, I really like this building.

How can some of those future residents sleep with the green line rumbling through right outside their windows?
