Beeline,

I believe this is the wooded parcel you photographed.

Yup, thats the place. As I thought it's State owned, so what's the deal with the new landscaping? Who is paying for it? BC or taxpayers.

Looks like this project is well underway. Cushing Hall has been demo'd, pilling and foundation work ongoing.

^Last I heard they were going to land bank it as mostly a new open space/green. But that could have changed.

When BC began demolition of the PLEX, they said this.
'a reclamation will begin on the site, making room for parking, green space, and tennis and basketball courts.'

Newton wants to use eminent domain to acquire land BC very recently bought from a synagogue. BC said it intended to use the land for administrative offices.

It's a little more complicated than that. Mayor Fuller wants to use eminent domain to take the back portion of the synagogue site, which has never been developed and which sits adjacent to City and DCR-owned conservation land. The rest of the site would stay with BC. It's not clear whether BC would actually develop the "Webster Woods" acreage, or whether its administrative uses would be confined to the Hammond Pond Parkway frontage (where the synagogue building and parking are).

BC could end this in about 5 minutes by simply promising to keep the back part - which is physically difficult to build on anyway due to rock ledges and wetlands - as conservation land owned by the college. BC might have refused to sell because they want to develop it, or because they simply didn't like the City's offer.
