Boston Skyline Photos

Thirded!

How many cranes do you guys see? I count ten.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everybody!

I count ten myself. Two projects in Cambridge, the new Berkeley dorm, two at Liberty Mutual, Hayward Place (it's blending in!), then the rest are at the new pharmaceutical headquarters, I think?

It nice to see the city appear so active, even if the projects aren't so large-scale.

Hey, everybody! I've been following this forum for a while and decided to join a few days ago. I'm a sophomore at Northeastern and I look forward to contributing to this site! You guys do a great job here.

I took this from the top of Renaissance Garage at Northeastern on July 20. Best place to see the skyline from, in my opinion! No gaps. I can't wait to see how this changes in a few years with Copley Place and other new developments. It's exciting to see so many cranes!

Very nice picture -- that is a good location from the back

Not quite on par with Cambridge view from the Charles banks at MIT Killian Court

Wellcome to our interesting mix of art, architecture, history, transportation, building technology and miscelaneous

By the way -- are you micro or macro?

DownB -- there are quite a few more cranes than that (4 around Kenall Sq. alone with Novartis to come soon) -- of course not all are visible in your picture

Some of the projects are actually quite large-scale -- just not immense in height -- for instance:
1) 1 m sq ft Vertex @ Fan Pier in two adjacent buildings
2) 1.73 m sq ft Alexandria @ Kendall Sq. $500 million +
3) 590 k sq. ft Liberty Mutual
4) 1.2 m sq. ft. Millenium (Filene's Site)
5) 755 k sq. ft. Copley Place tower

of course only the latter two will show-up big-time on a skyline photo

I quite like the Cambridge view as well. The narrowness and sleekness of the JHT (and even the Prudential, to an extent) from that angle is a welcome change from other views.

Thanks for the welcome, and I'll go with a microburst because they are less damaging. (Clarification: I'm an Environmental Science major and a complete weather nut.)

Yeah, I was going straight by skyline impact and height. I didn't know some of these projects had such large square footage, though- Vertex is 1m square feet? I never would have guessed. Thanks for the info!

The purple haze in the 3rd one is kind of creepy. I like it.

later before the rain the sky got lighter, but behind me it turned black as nite! click on this as it is a film clip!

What I wouldn't give for a 900 footer. There's something about towers around that height that gives me that overwhelming height feeling when looking up at it at an angle. It's presence literally demands attention, saying "look at me, I represent the financial prowess of this city."

Bought this huge print at IKEA last week. (They also have one of the Zakim)

Realized yesterday that the image they used is super old because 111 Huntington, one of the city's most beautiful towers, is missing and now it's driving me crazy.
